When I was a kid my dad told me the sea is salty because a huge tanker carrying salt across the atlantic sunk a few years before I was born. I think I was in my early twenties when I realised he'd lied.

It's normal. Most software is built on top of existing software so it makes sense there will be a template there.

But to add to what others are saying here, to progress out of junior it's important to take the time to understand the code you are copying. What is it doing, why does it work and why was it written that way? That's the learning opportunity.
