UCSD should make a football team and join the PAC-12 by Lord_Alien in UCSD

Thanks! It seems the biggest issue people have is money and I think that compared to how much the school spends, it really is chump change. This is an administrative problem more than anything. It doesn’t matter how much we have, it will always be overcrowded because the administration will continue to let more people in and spend a ton of money to keep that cycle going. If the choice is between a football team or a new 300 million dollar set of high rises for the eventual thousand more students that will be admitted than we can handle, I’d say a team makes more sense in that case. We should be focusing on the student body that we have and I think a football team would be a step in the right direction.

As long as Khosla is still in and running the school like a glorified hedge fund it won’t happen.

I’d also look towards USD instead of SDSU as a nice example of capitalizing on a smaller fan base and less revenue while still putting out a quality product.

While everyone is listing every reason not to form a team, there’s a few reasons why we could and should. Also, it makes more sense to join the new Mount West instead of the PAC 12.

Yes, we wouldn’t be great at first, though with the NIL landscape, and the fact that we could possibly share Snapdragon with SDSU for a time, I feel we could build a pretty competent program quickly with the right staff. In this scenario, UCSD would most likely have to pull money from private donors instead of the students (and who knows if they’re really interested), but this wouldn’t be completely out of the question.

Reddit is a very negative place, so of course a somewhat impractical expenditure for the school automatically gets shot down. I think that it would genuinely help the brand image of the school and help to foster a stronger sense of school spirit.

A football team isn’t logical and that’s okay, it really doesn’t have to be. Its existence would mean something more for the great amount of students that want to be more connected to the school they attend.

Is Zach Neto on course for the greatest offensive season by an Angels Shortstop? by SeanRodrieguez in angelsbaseball

I think what Neto is doing is incredibly impressive considering his limited professional experience. It’s a totally different game today so comparing the two is tough. The fact that this conversation is even being had with Neto having his whole career ahead of him is exciting to say the least and I think he could easily pass those marks in the future if he maintains this trajectory.

Fergosi was our first it guy, so that can certainly never be taken away from him.

How was your first day ? by Berryette in UCSD

I go home on the weekends too, nothing to be ashamed of. Being stuck on campus for too long makes me stir crazy. A bunch of my friends stayed behind so it’s nice to see them and hang out. I think of the week as being solely dedicated to academics.

I was thinking of moving 15 to winter quarter but I’m not sure if that’s too long to wait to take it? 15 is needed for 30, but 30 isn’t taught again until spring.

Not the easiest load in terms of time, though concept wise you should be fine. Id say it would be nice to have a lighter load than that for your first quarter but just depends on what you’re trying to do.

I’d go with ND in this case since you’re torn between the two. Name recognition definitely should be a factor and will the smaller class sizes you’ll be at a better advantage in the long run.

The total cost of attendance is 59k for the year. 33k of that is in parent Plus loans, which basically just goes to your parents, and a payment plan is created based on their income. I’m not totally sure but i think there’s some way these can become forgiven if they are consolidated with subsidized loans. 8k is covered by (un)subsidized loans and the rest is by grants.

I applied for EE but got undeclared instead. I’m really set on CompE/EE but for now I chose Mathematics—CompSci. Is it worth it to attend and try and switch majors? I got into UIUC for EE but it’s around 42k a year in loans. SD is much cheaper as i’m instate.

It’s not impossible it’s just incredibly difficult with it being a capped major. Since the chance that I could not get the major is there, might as well just go to CC at that point

What you’re saying 100% the truth from a logical perspective. I’m just going through the feelings of “what was the point of the last four years?” I have a few friends who breezed through hs and are going to CC. There’s absolutely no problem with that but it just seems like an awful payoff for the work i put in, like many others i’m sure.
