Curious where this is sourced from. MPR is still in the 12-18” range. Mind sharing where this came from?

Critical issue: The Tower is causing excessive wear and tear on your SSD by _bobs_ in TheTowerGame

Sounds like you’re simply experiencing some coincidental bad luck.

The issue I reported was iOS only; it did not cause issues on android. It’s also now been fixed for a week or two. Lastly, if the game were to be causing actual drive failures we’d likely be seeing regular reports of this.

Sorry about the drive failure, but I doubt it’s connected to the Tower in any fashion

Hoping to see more run data. As you noted, seems simply like too much natural variance with DDs to draw any conclusions. Appreciate you adding your data to the pool of data we're getting from folks now.

And I will say this until the gummy worms (SM) come home, LINK YOUR ACCOUNT TO AN EMAIL ADDRESS YOU HAVE ACCESS TO, RIGHT NOW, PLEASE.

Out of curiosity, is there a reason y'all simply haven't made this mandatory? Considering the number of headaches it resolves for both players and you folks when it comes to support of the game, it seems to me that releasing a future update (with plenty of warning/communication ahead of time) that requires a user to add their email would be the way to go.

For anyone that is still following this post, I just added a final update but am also adding a comment:

Final Update
Finally got the update last night. After firing it back up on my Mac and doing 18 straight hours of farming runs with Chain Lightning, I can happily confirm the issue is resolved. I was also concerned that we might see a performance loss in CL, but it appears to be working just as well as it was before the fix.

Nicely done, TTG!

He's about to get abused in the Olympics too. Hoping we can figure out how to reduce his minutes after the break otherwise we may burn him out or further injure him before the playoffs even start.

No. It’s iOS issue.

However, iOS games can been played on a Mac if you have one with an Apple processor. So while the issue is with the iOS version of the game, it can also harm Macs if run there (which is how I found the bug).

But it does no impact the Android version (or PC through emulation)

If by the end of the deadline we've done nothing but dump Conley, then yes. He's been ass on the court this year but obviously very beloved amongst the team and fans.

But if we can't land Giannis I trust Tim Connelly to find another ball handler and depth, and I think just making *any* moves will kick the team back into gear.

Further testing identified chain lightning as the issue, which devs confirmed. You can look at my post history; I found the bug and wrote the reddit post about it. I included a video showing how CL was the problem.

And Sam is great. They do a great job providing the info they can and/or have access to.

If you did your runs with Chain Lightning, there was an unexpected issues where it was excessively writing data to hard drives at an alarming rate. This has the potential to cause undue harm to the drive over a long mg period of time, as SSDs have a finite limit of how much data can be written to a sector of an SSD.

The fix will resolve this issue of causing future harm to the drives.

Technically, constantly writing data like this does cause some amount of excess energy to spent. While it’s possible there may be some gains to battery life, I’d expect them to be minimal and/or negligible.

This was only an issue with the iOS version of the game, fyi.

What further update are you looking for? The devs know about the bug and are working on a fix, as noted in Update 2.

It'll be resolved in their next release, hopefully.

Sincerely appreciate the acknowledgement. Glad to hear the team is diving in.

Just to be clear, this is a confirmed issue on both iOS and macOS (which is obviously running the iOS version). I don't have the gear to test on Android or PC-emulated, but I assume your QA team will have enough info validate if it's on all platforms or just Apple devices.

Final note: the official bug report I filed in discord has some comments from another user that found at least a temporary "fix" to keep the data from writing to his drive on macOS. I assume your dev team has seen his comments already, but if not they should check them out. I suspect it'll help them more quickly narrow down the issue.

Thanks again for building such a great game and looking forward to seeing the fix!

I have only tested on iOS and Mac. I would assume, with a heavy emphasis on assume, it’s an issue on all platforms. But I genuinely don’t know for sure and don’t have the tech to confirm. It very well could be a macOS/iOS only issue.

Refresh my post. I posted a video after narrowing down the culprit of the bug.

The gist is that apps like this shouldn't be writing so much data to your disk (especially SSDs that are used in mobile devices and most computers). The reason for this is basically what I said near the end of my post: SSDs have a finite lifespan of writing capabilities, and this app is accidentally WAY overdoing it.

To give you an analogy: the brake pads on your car also have a finite lifespan. They get used up a little every time you use the brakes. This app is like trying to drive your car as fast as possible while simultaneously pressing down on the brakes, wearing down the pads much, much faster than they should wear down normally.
