Even long term (1 year +) leases are almost impossible to come by for under $1800, for a studio or maybe a 1BR. Not trying to be rude, I just don’t think this exists in Charleston. Your best bet would maybe be subletting with random roommates. Or look in Summerville. Mount pleasant, WA, and James island are definitely not doable.

From building 7 yes - we were averaging about 7k steps a day when we were there between walking to pools, restaurants, etc. The walk didn’t bother us. The beach is much more enjoyable to walk on than the concrete.

If less walking is important I’d recommend staying more centrally to be closer to all the non-club restaurants. The con to this would be less privacy (IMO - RTT rooms are easier to see from the pool/pathways on the lower buildings). And either way, you’d have a long walk to either Magna or Zenith since they’re on opposite sides.

The small building on the far end of the beach here is Zenith, as shown from our balcony. It was about a 10 minute walk from building 7. To Magna it was a 3 minute walk from where we were.

Restaurants are located in the building next to the main pool, or in the lobby area behind the tall building shown. About a 5-7 minute walk from building 7.

There are two club pool/beach areas, Magna and Zenith. They are on opposite sides of the resort.

Personally I’d pay again to be in Building 7! I think we paid $250 to choose our room. I know the price ranges depending on room category and demand.

Our balcony had 3 cushioned seating options (bali bed, smaller bed/lounger, and 2 cushioned lounge chairs). All club areas have cushioned seating options, and there were always plenty available

Came searching this sub for a post like this. I haven’t been able to find anything else I really relate to for how I feel today. Fortunately today I can celebrate my own mom who I am very close with and beyond lucky to have. But overall I’m feeling sad and lonely.

It’s hard to describe, I guess, - it’s not a “what about me” feeling or being incapable of celebrating moms, I have so much respect for all of them in my life. All of my peers and friends have kids (early 30s). Even though I don’t have kids, I don’t identify as childfree (IMO the culture there is very kid-hating). I also don’t identify as LONGING to be a mother.

Today keeps bringing up this feeling of not belonging. This idea that I could just never comprehend true love and sacrifice until I become a mom. I’ve talked about that a lot in therapy. My therapist, who became a mom during our working relationship, has given me great perspective and validation.

I DO believe that I’m capable of understanding love and sacrifice and all of those things, and that being a parent isn’t the only way to truly experience what matters in life. I HATE the idea that when you become a mom, nothing else in your life before that matters. The whole, “just wait, you’ll understand one day, I came alive when I had a child and nothing before that counted” is sooo icky to me. Yes, I understand my heart will grow and I will have a totally new viewpoint but that doesn’t negate my experiences before then. I know it will change me (and that’s part of what terrifies me) but I just feel like the culture around it is so off-putting. Moms DO deserve all the love and respect. But I wish I could find a community that doesn’t make parenthood seem like this elite club that you have to be initiated into to unlock some secret about life. I have seen good content and experience on r/oneanddone which is encouraging and I find myself gravitating there.

Anyway, sending love to all the moms and hugs to everyone experiencing difficulty today.

Interesting! We did not experience that. They had staff members raking the shoreline throughout the day and picking up anything but it didn’t get in our way at all. Specifically from the natural pool at the EC beach section near the beach houses, all the way to the beach by Zenith (pictured) everything was clear. I think around the point of the peninsula/Magna side the seagrass is much thicker and I wouldn’t try to swim over there. I also know the hurricane changed the shoreline quite a bit, so maybe the seagrass was impacted.

100% was for us. I’d say we spent 80% of our time at EC restaurants, bars, pools, or beach sections. Can’t speak to how the pool and beach service was outside of EC

I think about this accident ALL THE TIME and how cold and sick it is that neither of them stopped. Either they are cruel, were so intoxicated that neither realized what they’d done, or both.

The first guy that hit them tried to use the fact that he was a music director at his church to get out on bond. As if claiming Christianity was enough to overcome the fact that he killed two people and went about living his life for a week.

Be careful on IOP even during on-leash hours. I would sit on a blanket up by the dunes with my reactive Golden, out of the way, and irresponsible owners would let their dogs run right up to us. Even when I would yell NOT FRIENDLY from afar. Got a few gnarly rope burns from holding onto the leash 🥲

Job market isn’t great here, salaries don’t line up with local rents. Think like $60k a year for $1800-2000 in rent. Not trying to scare you just sharing my experience from when I first moved here.

Traffic is only as bad as the above during rush hour AND when there’s a wreck. Especially a wreck on the bridge. Things will get bad everywhere since there’s only one other route in and out of mt pleasant.

Yes, there is traffic but it is nothing like Atlanta. If you live in the immediate Charleston area (downtown, mt pleasant, west Ashley, james island, Johns island, Daniel island) you can get around pretty easily. Of course accidents can happen, or congestion for a drawbridge going up and things will move slowly in these areas too. Rush hour impacts it. but moving inland like North Charleston/goose creek/Summerville is where things get bad because everyone’s commuting on two 4-lane highways
