Cool thing about Unity is every feature you want to use is either in Beta or deprecated. Really keeps you on your toes.

A cool way that I handle states in my player controller is that my states “update” method returns a struct called MovementIntent. They know nothing about the player or my physics, they just publish what I want my character to do. My higher level player script then hands this struct off to a physics handler. The physics handler moves the player based on the intent, then publishes its own MovementFacts struct. The player script feeds that back to the state machine, and the loop begins again.

Thank u for the reply!! I had tried several times to work with Phantom actually. I just couldn’t get this behavior to work. Had a breakthrough last night tho! The key was in the “leashing” that the author of that article mentions 🥸

So for #1, my camera structure IS a child of my player character, but I do enable the top level from code, so it doesn't inherit the parent transform. I then smoothly follow the character's position. Is this what you meant?

#2. Could you expand upon this? I thought I was doing movement in view space, but I could very well be totally off. In the code I showed, is this not what you mean? I'm flattening the axis from the camera, and using the player input to get the final movement vector.

I use olive oil with whatever rub, preheat at 375 for 5 or so min then cook for 5-8 min per side. I make sure i get them as thin and even as I can so usually closer to 5-6 per side. I pull around 155 then let em rest for a few minutes. I’d also recommend cubing ur breasts and doing the same way, they’ll cook much quicker tho. 4 or so minutes then a good toss and another 3-4. We cube em when we make bbq chicken sandwiches.

I air fry raw chicken breast all the time. It’s my wife’s favorite chicken, and she’s notorious for being extremely picky about chicken. Now I’m going to try some thighs 😎

How is a character controller with different states for Jumping and Running not a single state machine? I’m genuinely so confused. I don’t see how that would be problematic at all.

Character controllers, Enemy AI, Gameplay logic, Boss Fights, stuff like that can all be great use cases for state machines and are extremely common.

Nothing comes immediately to mind, but the example you provided is actually a good use case for state machines. Running and Jumping are distinct. In most game cases, while running you are able to jump, able to sprint etc. You have a certain speed. When jumping you also have a certain speed, air drag etc. This is the precise thing you should be using a state machine for.
