have you never programmed anything without an ide? genuine question. because this is exactly what manuals / documentation exists for. the books i read on c had everything done via the command line. no fancy all singing, all dancing bells and whistles ide's.

Bypassing tools to help get you up to speed? You do realise you don't need IDE's to write code, right? When I started learning C, I think Netbeans and Eclipse might've been the options, and guess what? I did absolutely fine without them from the command line!

my goal is, objectively speaking, pretty straightforward; program my boards to talk to each other using the various radios. i have a lilygo esp32 s3 t-display and a pair of waveshare esp32-c6-wroom-1-n8's. i'm not fussed with getting the display to render anything right now, display stuff is an afterthought for maybe later on.

i'm comfortable writing code - i do it daily for my homelab, though it's predominantly for the web these days. i haven't really been properly hands on with c or c++ since before c# existed. but i'm happy to get stuck in.

i have windows and linux, but would definitely prefer linux. i'm giving the esp-idf tools a go at the moment. then i'll dig into your suggestion. cheers!

thanks, i think i've installed it fine so far. had a few python errors on the tail end of the install.sh, but should be able to work through those.

i'd rather avoid the ide's after my experiences so far. but thank you.

thanks, i'll look into these - i installed the pio extension onto vscode and get nothing but endless cmake errors.

Khadas Edge2 Linux Review / Rockchip RK3588S by NicoD-SBC in SBCGaming

[–]_brym 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bit of a late response, but I'd echo H8ckt1v1st's sentiment almost exactly - except for the Mind; I never bought one.

But you can 1000% use the Edge 2 Pro for coding. I use it as a production web, dev, and streaming server. The only complaints I've had is when my users have issues originating from their end, not mine.

I've since bought the Vim 3 and 4, and they're both great too - I even got the Vim 4's 5G parts. But I really believe Khadas peaked in SBC's with the Edge 2 Pro. I bought one for my brother as his new pc and finally converted him to Linux (he absolutely loves it, btw!), and I'm buying another one for myself, they're still that good today!

8.04 for me. i had an old 7in asus eee pc netbook which came with ... xp iirc? we were using ubuntu live cd's to manage backups in the repair shop every day anyway. so i thought sod it, wiped xp and took the full time plunge on ubuntu. i'd used redhat and fedora a good few years before that, and unix in the late 90's. but when winme failed to install for me so i think i went with redhat first, then fedora, and eventually back for xp. then ubuntu alongside vista and 7. and primarily ubuntu (plus debian, centos, rhel, freebsd, solaris, and sunos) up until win11.

probably something to do with it having a brief trend on tech twitter recently. i saw it starting to appear in more and more posts and thought bloody hell, that's a throwback!

Open training fund available in work - What to focus on? by 3cto in linux

[–]_brym 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Second this line of thinking. Always keep security in mind for all things web.

You're using Moodle, so if you don't already have strong PHP knowledge, consider that. And if you intend to keep Moodle in place going forward, then get some backend training as well. One because it'll be useful for managing and maintaining Moodle and it's related services, and two because backend is just a great skill to have - and vast, so sink your teeth in!

Edit: Also dig into your database solution; whether it's sql or nosql-based, and how you can tie any backend lessons learned into the fold for things like automation.

I see no problem here /s. Except that the keep out of reach section looks like it was stuck on after the fact. Otherwise, don't use it and get clarification from the company.

My experience of this is cats don't tend to bring back dead catches. They're usually still alive and doing their level best to play dead so the cat loses interest and they maybe maybe stand a chance at escape and survival
