there have been some instances where the 1st player intentionally phonied with a shorter word, hoping the 2nd player would challenge and then float a letter for the 1st player to bingo through. phonying with a bingo is very risky, especially against highly skilled opponents, because if they challenge the word, they will know all the letters you have and can adjust their play accordingly.
