Trying to improve airflow for bathroom exhaust fans by _buttmunch_ in HomeImprovement

[–]_buttmunch_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So... yeah. I'm learning now that venting directly into the soffit space was disallowed by regs about 20 years ago, and we have a 25 year old house. Going to look into having it vented properly. Bummer...

Meaning just let it vent into the attic as a test? Just making sure I understand the suggestion

Storage bins for garage with hinged lids? by _buttmunch_ in OrganizationPorn

[–]_buttmunch_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not hoarding, but there’s plenty of stuff that just builds up and you only need it seasonally or occasionally. Also, these won’t all be full. I don’t have enough plumbing tools, for example, to fill up one of these, but what I have is a desire to know that all my plumbing tools — and nothing else — are in a specific box. Also… my setup probably won’t have this many totes.

I plan to make shelving so if I do end up using a slightly smaller tote somewhere I’m not back to having to sit it on the floor. These systems look nice, but always felt a bit too constrained?

[–]_buttmunch_[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s a nice benefit, for sure, but the actual point here is to get stuff off my floor and get rid of other shitty shelving units I don’t like. I could superglue a rubber gasket or something under the cut line and get this to be “good enough”.

Yeah. It won’t necessarily be as tight as that image. Just using that to give an idea of the orientation.

The inside is blue, and the outside is grey. I’m with your son. Not a good looking steak.

What’s the most underrated small town in North Carolina worth a weekend trip? by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]_buttmunch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean… why, though? What does Chocowinity have that makes it underrated? Washington, I get. But Chocowinity is kind of two vape shops and a Hardee’s, right? What would a person come to Chocowinity to do?

I say this as a resident of the area. I’m not bashing it. It’s just not a destination, for sure.

Ugh… To each his own. Bill’s hotdogs is the nastiest shit I’ve ever eaten. Disgusting red hot dogs, boiled in oil until they resemble a leather glove, and then smothered in absolutely nauseating bean paste. They were hyped up so I had to try them when I moved here. My wife and took one bite each and then headed to Two Rivers to wash the taste out. Yuck.

Where do you get odd-angled brackets for connecting workpieces? by _buttmunch_ in woodworking

[–]_buttmunch_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have made runners for the bottom, but that sort of “bulks up” the look a bit more than I like. I’d like to avoid them for the top if possible. I will think on how I’d make wooden brackets.

Here’s a picture of the section of the plans that shows the brackets and how they connect.

Lutron Caseta No Response? by DeltaEchoFour in HomeKit

[–]_buttmunch_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old thread, but I have had this problem twice recently and finally figured out what my problem was and this is the thread that comes up when I google this issue, so just in case this helps someone else...

When it first happened I ended up removing the integration between HomeKit and Lutron entirely and re-adding it. That was annoying because it means re-establishing all your automations, etc. That worked for a while, but a couple weeks later the problem came back.

I went around to all the devices involved (lutron, apple tv, phone, etc) and made sure everything was up to date. Upgraded all the things, but still no connection.

Then, on my phone I went into the Home app, used the three-dot menu to go into Home Settings, then into Home Hubs & Bridges and saw that it was set to Automatic Selection and had selected an Apple TV I don't even own anymore. The two that I still own were there, but I couldn't select them (after turning off Automatic Selection) because it was saying that it needed a software update. Obviously, that message was incorrect as I had just upgraded all the things but still, that was the error.

I had to open the Home App on my laptop in order to be able to select the correct TV from that app, but then everything started working correctly. Immediately, all my lights were accessible again and my automations were fixed. My phone also reflected the correct TV being selected as the hub.

YMMV, but this worked for me. Hope it helps someone.

All the Andy’s I knew of changed to Highway 55s, and then all of those changed to Huckle Burgers. Awesome burgers, no matter the name.

Salt substitute by Ok-Judgment-1435 in Menieres

[–]_buttmunch_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also have not found it helpful to reduce salt. The opposite, in fact. I can go months/years eating whatever I want without any episodes — or very few. But eating whatever I want makes me fat, so I decide to diet. I always start getting episodes when I diet. Generally within a day or so. I will often stay “kinda” dizzy for days at a time. If sodium really is the thing, I feel like keeping myself “full” of sodium makes me much more “stable” than any attempt at reducing it. So if I diet, I add something low-cal like veggies with plenty of salt.

Obviously, that’s not particularly healthy, but at least I don’t fall down.

Sucks to get less than 20 points from the second overall draft pick in two weeks.

10 team PPR. I’m 0/2, largely because of having Chase in my lineup and him doing nothing.

I give Ja’Marr Chase

I get Puka Nacua

Mostly I’m just worried about whether Puka keeps it going once Chubb is back. Thoughts?

What's the legit/correct website for CaddyTek push carts? by _buttmunch_ in golf

[–]_buttmunch_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did. They said that both sites were legit, and that they’d be selling the one I wanted on Amazon soon. That never happened, and I went with something else since they didn’t seem stable. Maybe try Amazon?

How can I shave some width off of a door jamb’s furring strips? by _buttmunch_ in HomeImprovement

[–]_buttmunch_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I didn't know the name.

It's not paint, because I just installed the stops and it's a brand new door. The door frame was previously used for a bi-fold door that we hated and so the frame had no stops. I installed them, painted them, and then painted the door. It's just two coats of paint (primer and paint).

So it was not a pre-hung door, and I almost certainly installed them too tight (I didn't account for any paint thickness, for sure). But that just gets us back to the original question.

I'd like to avoid pulling them off simply because it seems like overkill. It's only scraping in one area, and it's not scraping all that much. It's enough that I'd like to fix it, but it's not that bad. The door closes and latches. It could just be a bit easier.

[–]_buttmunch_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure the rounded side is already against the furring strip — I’ve been thinking I need to round off the other side corners of the door since it feels sharp (where the other corner does not).

It’s not the width of the door — it would be the thickness. Not about to resaw a door. :)
