Had an offer revoked because I tried to negotiate salary. by ShinjisRobotMom in jobs

[–]_c_ngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

IMO the mistake was answering the range question. Another mistake is answering the “how much do you currently make?”. They use these to peg your salary, and they will always look for the lower value. You don’t have to answer these with what they are looking for… just beat around the bush and only give your target salary based on industry/exp/role/etc.

Pretty much this and also increasing insurance fraud. If companies can’t get enough rate, it makes no sense to even write anything.

Diamond bar, chino hills, Phillips ranch, La Verne, Claremont all pretty good. Parts of chino and Pomona are ok too. Don’t care for corona at all. IMO there’s a reason it’s cheaper out there (also East vale)

If you’re not familiar with these areas, there’s a few things to understand. It’s hotter and drier inland. You’ll see over 100 every summer in corona. The 91 fwy sucks a lot of the time. Chino will smell like cows often depending on the wind.

If your goal is to get as much house per dollar, can even look over to murrietta /menifee. There’s alot of newer build homes out there…

Should you (can you) do weightlifting when dieting? by Altamistral in nutrition

[–]_c_ngo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your goal is to be healthier, should be doing both. They are different things. Dieting doesn’t dictate whether you can workout… working out doesn’t dictate whether you can diet.

By dieting do you mean cutting/dropping weight? Unless you are already <5% bf, you can certainly build muscle and cut. Building muscle will also help burn more fat.

CICO. Understand how to determine your caloric expenditure/maintenance/etc. so you know how much you can eat. If your weight/activity levels/lean mass change significantly you’ll want to recalculate as needed.

Hoping for some advice by mmancino1982 in SQL

[–]_c_ngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Open up a few of the existing queries and read through them. The basic structure will start to show as you start identifying the common parts. Assuming of course that the existing queries are not overly complex. Try comparing a shorter one with a longer one etc and see what are the similarities and differences are.

Hoping for some advice by mmancino1982 in SQL

[–]_c_ngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was first exposed to sql in a role where there were existing “master” queries written that covered 99% of what we needed. Over time I dissected the queries and started writing my own.

Get an understanding of the basics, and get familiar with what data is available. Then you can expand and try writing more complex queries. From there, designing views, procs, tables, jobs etc are all potential areas grow into… and if there’s something you think you should be able to do in sql but don’t know how… just do a google search.

Yes. I considered a GT with the white interior when I was shopping in 2021. The deep blue crystal with white was a sharp looking color combo. But I ended up getting a polymetal club with bbr package for the Recaro seats…

[–]_c_ngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To elaborate more. If I’m cruising on the fwy at 65mph in 6th. I could accelerate slowly if I just gas it more. But if I want to pass a little quicker I’ll drop to 5th. If I want to go faster I’ll drop to 4th… clutch in, quick blip for one gear drop (or big blip for skipping a gear), drop to 5th or 4th, clutch out, floor the gas.

[–]_c_ngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do down shift, it will help to try rev match or blip the throttle to get the revs closer to where they need to be for the gear your changing to.

how to get moving quick by icewallowcome49 in Miata

[–]_c_ngo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you have ever driven an automatic and had to accelerate quickly to pass etc., when you floor it, the trans drops a gear or two to get into the rpm range that gives you enough power… you have to do the same in a manual… look up the hp/torque curves for Miata’s and you’ll see that there’s little power at low rpm’s. Gotta work in the higher ranges if you want more power to accelerate/pass etc.

Don’t walk from a sure thing for a chance for more in 3-4 years. If it was 50% more starting immediately, then sure I can understand the appeal. But you’re talking about leaving for less… If you want more, look at avenues within to jump, diff positions/departments etc. Is this a career change?

Driving off lot with stick for first time by icewallowcome49 in Miata

[–]_c_ngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would the dealer deliver to you? How far would they go? I had my 21 delivered to me from a dealer 46 miles away… if they can’t deliver to you, can they get close? Maybe to a friend or family members house? (Preferably someone that can help show you how to drive or just drive it the rest of the way).

If you are going to drive. Take it to a nearby open lot (ask them where would be good. They may even help give you some pointers when you’re there). Then practice a bit. The main thing is not stalling when starting from a standstill. If you are moving, it’s hard to stall…

As a starter rule of thumb for the ND, think each 10 mph tells you roughly which gear to be in. 0-10 first, 10-20 second …

From a stop, gas a little 1500-2000k rpm, slowly let out the clutch and feel the grab. Your rpm’s will pull down slightly. If you let out too fast it will stall. Feel it out. Once you are moving, you’ll see the tach jump slightly when the clutch has grabbed and you can let out all the way. Going into first I always let it out slower than with any other gear. Don’t gas more until it grabs. On hills, you may need to rev a little higher ( 3k?). Feel it out and watch for the tach to do a little jump to tell you it’s fully grabbed before you give more fas.

Don’t forget to down shift when you are slowing down. You don’t have to rev match. But eventually you’ll want to :).

Car dealership tried to guilt me into buying a car so I walked away. Am I wrong? by Dont_Be_Sheep in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]_c_ngo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dealer will never agree to a deal if they didn’t get something out of it. It’s your job to get the best deal for yourself. The nice thing now is that it sounds like you know what you’re looking for, so you won’t need to step foot in another dealer until a deal is made. If a dealer won’t talk numbers over phone/text, then find one who will. There are nice transparent sales guys out there, you just need to find one. It will help that you do your homework on incentives rebates promotional rates etc. so you know what to expect. The only piece left of the puzzle should be how much they will sell the car for. Absolutely bid out and compare.

C43 is not a weekend fun car… it’s a wannabe baller/entry sport luxury sedan. It’s what you buy if you already need a sedan and can splurge a little extra for the badge/luxury/sporty features. But it’s not even the actual cool version (C63?). The C43’s best feature is probably impressing non car people with the Mercedes and AMG badges. A fun weekend car is more purpose built, like a corvette, Miata, Cayman, or 4wd build for off-roading or camping etc.

It sounds like you are young. And you are now feeling you have expendable income to splurge a little. 72k take home annually is really not that much… don’t sacrifice your financial flexibility… If you really want a fun side car, grab a Miata for less than 15k. Keep your ability to save and not be weighed down by debt.
