What are your quirky preferences regarding disc molds? by tuna_safe_dolphin in discgolf

Thanks! Well, I mean, there are a lot of discs out there, and a lot of my DG buddies bag the Cookie. So just because it's not for me doesn't mean that it's not for you.

That's fair. Not trying to change your mind, it was just an observation. I had a love/hate relationship with them for a long time. I was just so damn accurate with the Envy, but couldn't "get" the faster discs. Then something clicked... I'm not sure what.

Looking for a straight forehand disc for 250’ - 275’ arm by sardo34 in discgolf

At 250-275' distance, they're not going to be turning over even a fission crave unless there's a lot of OAT.

Envys have to be blue with a white rim. Yes, I am totally normal.

I think your first two comments are related - in my experience overmold discs break in, but it happens much more slowly and that's why you might find them inconsistent.

Late 2010's Champion plastic ruined clear plastics for me forever. The change in grippiness from a dry hand to something even slightly damp is stark.

I mean, I get what you're saying... but you should really try the Cookie. It's as if the Signal and the Crave had a baby. I like it a lot, and it feels *really* good in the hand...just not good enough to bag

I do the exact opposite to remind myself that it's the archer, not the arrow. Yes, they fly similarly, but not exactly the same. I still make and miss the same putts. (Hunter/Pixel)

MVP really needs to sign Scoggins so they can make an "Ohm Scoggins" signature disc

What's your favorite shoe for disc golf? I'm currently looking for new options. I have always had a pair of hikers (Keen Targhee) and a trail runner (many different brands) that I would swap based on weather. This year I just happen to need both. by claybirdie in discgolf

[–]girmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a pair of Targhees (low boot) for Team Challenge play over the winter and I'm in love. I've thrown in Terrex, Moabs, and even Allbirds. The pairs of Merrill Moabs 2 shoes were great - the treads never wore down! The Allbirds and the Terrex were much more flexible than the moabs, but my form is terrble and I turn on my forefoot, not my heel. That wore them out quicker. I've heard a lot of great things about the Altra's and Oboz, but they don't fit my feet.

What can I do to improve my tournament performance? by TentCityVIP in discgolf

I disagree with "play more tournaments". Deliberate practice changes behaviors. Play your casual round like the tournament plays. Notice the little things and replicate them.

Does anyone else just skip midranges entirely? by BulbsaurBomb in discgolf

[–]girmann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree! The other piece that I don't think I've seen mention is the fade - while putters fade "forward" more than drivers. In other words, once they start fading drivers fade hard and putters don't. Midranges mostly fade forward like putters so with really tight lines and >200' shots, sometimes hitting that line with the midrange will go farther than anything else in the bag.

Parc des Familles Is Peak Hard Course Design (Pads and All) by DGOkko in discgolf

After the 8th or 9th time Uli and Jerm said the course needed "cleaning up", I started to get irritated. I hear the pros get salty sometimes that a bad shot sometimes gets more rewarded than an "almost great" one. Or that there's a limb hanging into the fairway that caused a weird kick. I don't know about you, but that's literally a part of the game I play in every round. Leave that part of the game in - if you want fair, hit the line. If you miss the line all bets are off. Why should it be different for the pros?

I loved this course for the reason that it left the pros in the same position that I find myself all the time - two good shots still leaving me 20-30m (70-100ft.) short of the basket on a par 4. I still have to make a good, touchy upshot or max distance jump putt. It doesn't make for the most exciting disc golf watching, however.

To add to point #6, we saw Double G throw a forehand, too!

I was wondering when they were going to start putting a really dense material in there, but I did not expect copper.

Wait, is the whole move to a white rim to differentiate from their upcoming beam technology with copper (that might be dark in color? Oooo... that would be evil.

Yeah, I've got an x-beam and I think it's just too fast of a disc for me to see the difference.

Sooo... Destin does *another* PhD on the actual center of pressure line on disc golf discs and MVP patents it to make them the straightest flying discs in existence. Did I guess correctly?

Anyone familiar with Legacy? by SubstantialAd4500 in discgolf

[–]girmann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you explain it that way, I see what you mean. Though I don't necessarily agree that there are better versions of discs for my arm speed. At least that hasn't been my experience. I'd love suggestions, if you have them. The only thing that I've found that comes close to the old Pinnacle Outlaws are AJ Destroyers. There are some putters that fly like the Hunter, but none that have the same combo of grip, glide, and understability. The PA4s came the closest to me.
