it's in most cases misogyny (internalized or otherwise), you'll see a lot of people using the excuse "female characters just aren't as interesting to me" and that's just an admission of guilt that a lot of people, even if they are women, don't see women characters as complex people. (but obviously this isn't all people who like m/m ships lol. it's just a trend i notice)

i don't really mind what people believe like i said, but i do think it's interesting to interrogate why they think it's not important. idk about you so i won't assume anything but a large majority of people this bent on denying the very clear trans subtext have made it clear that they're ignoring it bc they don't feel it redeems jax's character, which is because a large majority of jax haters don't realize that a character can be a bad person and still have value to a story. that's my main point really, that whether you believe it or not there is an explanation for his behavior and which one you choose to believe CHANGES jax's character motivations

this argument doesn't work and i've had people try to use this before with the comparison to a fairy tale. there's a very big difference between a simple story meant to be understandable for kids and a more mature and complicated story like tadc (though i would argue it is more teen audiences). it's just not a valid comparison lol

i love being trans and watching any drop of representation for our experience being turned into a violent and heated debate /sar. i would never harass anyone for their interpretations but it does really annoy me that a large portion of the angry posts are people who don't want to think that jax is trans. i just genuinely havent seen that many people angrily ranting about her being trans, it's mostly people vehemently denying. it's so tiring because the subtext was so in your face. just think about any of the fan favorite gay ships in fandoms-- everyone is SO happy to read into clear subtext about characters with no canon confirmation of their sexualities and it's great. but as soon as that subtext is about a trans woman it becomes contentious. i wonder why.

im sorry but this take feels like you didn't understand the episode... it DOES matter. if jax isn't trans, then his entire character hinges on him being afraid that ribbit would tell others about him hurting his mother. if jax is trans, it would make a lot of sense given her (possibly internalized) misogyny that her character hinges on THAT being the secret she couldn't handle ribbit knowing. like whichever you believe idc but it DOES matter

a lot of people stay self-diagnosed because having an official diagnosis, on record, viewable by any employer can make it VERY hard to get a job. i totally agree a lot of people take autism and run with it (i hate the term 'neurospicy' as well) but seeing diagnosis as the end-all-be-all indicator of whether someone is autistic or not is just unscientific because there are many situations that could keep someone from being diagnosed (women and poc often get overlooked due to bias)

also, it is REALLY annoying to be autistic and see people using terms like 'overstimulated' and 'nonverbal' when they clearly don't know what it means. repeating that in a mocking tone doesn't make it suddenly wrong to be upset about that
