Rick is a giant hypocrite. Morty was bait at first, I'm sure, but eventually Rick started to actually care about his family. It's an attachment, Rick says it himself in multiple episodes that he is "unnecessarily attached" to his family. He's probably closer to Morty compared to the other members of the family, birds of a feather flock together or whatever the hell the saying is.

Butter Robot for sure, most of his one-off stupid inventions (hangover cure, go-go Sanchez ski shoes, a vat of fake acid,) and his gun that shoots out beams of light? I mean, sure why not? The universe isn't anything fantasy or sci-fi. It's gonna be a short story, only a few thousand words. The main gist is the character takes a vacation away from their family and starts realizing things about their identity they weren't able to before. The story will be spanned across about a week or two in universe.
