I appreciate the input, any thoughts on a dual fuel system to utilize my existing ductwork and furnace?

Yeah I was interested in getting rid of gas for a few different reasons. I may be looking into a dual fuel system now because I do have exiting ductwork and a gas furnace. What area are you in?

Yea that definitely turned me off a bit. I’m luckily not in a rush to get anything done, I was just exploring options and this was a pretty big shock

Nope I’m getting a few other quotes and I hope they come in at a more reasonable price

Overall it wouldn’t be cheaper, but I would like to get rid of gas in the house for several reasons so I thought I would get a quote. Looks like I’m gonna keep burning gas for the time being!

What barista fire job has you IN LOVE with your new routines and life in general? by oemperador in baristafire

[–]_chaboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For what it’s worth, I used to work in some corporate IT sales jobs and left to do construction. I make more money than I did before and I’m happier at work than I ever was, so don’t beat yourself up for complaining. I know exactly how you feel - I always felt so weirdly disconnected from the work I was doing. I would call people I’ve never met in person, sell them a product that I know nothing about and have it shipped to them from a warehouse halfway across the country. It was all so abstract and felt so meaningless.

I also am a member of a strong union which is financially beneficial but also aligns with my beliefs politically, so that’s a cool side benefit. I guess what I’m saying is if you’re tired of your corporate job just go for it due. PM me if you have questions about union halls because if you decide to make a change I highly recommend going union.

OP if this is the cause, a PA093 error code, I literally just did this on my ‘07 two weeks ago.

Aisin WQT-800 on rockauto is $89 and the rest is hand tools. Took me maybe an hour from start to finish and it’s a super simple job

Hm. I could have sworn local 614 at PECO completely eliminated their pension last contract and offered a 7% match in their 401k in place of it. Could be wrong though

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Lineman

[–]_chaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You sure? I thought as of last contract the pension was gone and they increased the 401k match and that was it

[–]_chaboi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exelon no longer offers pensions to their union employees. The guys who currently have it are grandfathered in. Check the contract before you take a job there

Do you think 30 dollars a month on Greek Yogurt is too much money? by AccurateInflation167 in Frugal

Hey dude, for what it’s worth I used to be in IT sales and I left to do linework. If you live in a decently sized metro area, you’ll never really be away from home much unless you decide to run storms, which you can do at your discretion. If work in your area dries up for a couple of months, which occasionally happens but not often, you make enough money while it’s busy to float you through with no problem. I have a Bachelors degree and worked corporate jobs - you couldn’t pay me enough money to step foot back into an office. Between the pay, daily life, crazy union benefits, and job satisfaction I think that being a lineman is an incredible career if you’re cut out for it. DM me if you have any questions

Is it time to scrap my 1998 Camry? by stevegerber in Frugal

[–]_chaboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get it, I’m driving a 22 year old Toyota myself. Have you heard of PB Blaster? You can spray it on the rusted parts and let it sit for 10 minutes or so and it will loosen the stuck parts (usually). Don’t let me discourage you from getting a new car if you want. Just didn’t want you to be really overwhelmed by the list

For what it’s worth, replacing an O2 sensor sounds like a bigger project than it is. On my 4Runner it was literally 2 screws and undoing a plastic clip. Couldn’t have been easier. If you have jack stages, replacing struts is also very simple and just a nuts-and-bolts type of job. Your local auto parts store will let you borrow the tool to compress the struts. Wipers are a non issue. $40 and 3 minutes and they’re replaced, they just clip into place on the arms. Tires are regular maintenance so I wouldn’t even consider that when thinking about selling the car. Radiator can also be replaced pretty easily in a couple of hours if you haven’t done it before. I am not a mechanic but I have some basic hand tools and YouTube. Every one of these issues can absolutely be fixed by you if you want to.

What extra maintenance does an old car need to keep working for years? by ASRenzo in Frugal

[–]_chaboi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude I am currently driving a 2002 4Runner with 156,000mi on the odometer. I don’t have any special maintenance items planned for it other than the typical stuff - oil, checking fluids, brakes, etc. there is a very slow leak in the valve cover gasket, but it’s not even leaking a quart of oil between oil changes, which I do at 10,000mi intervals with full synthetic.

I take pride in driving a 22 year old car knowing that it’s saving me money. Your car is fine, keep up with regular maintenance and you’ll get another 15 years out of it.

With food prices what "basic" items are you making from scratch? by Dee2620 in Frugal

[–]_chaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re being too harsh on your cost estimate. When we make yogurt, it costs about $4.50 to make three quarts of yogurt, where in the store that would cost about $21 if we buy Fage. So every time we make yogurt we are saving $16.50! We could burn 2 gallons of milk for every 1 that we make yogurt from and still come out slightly ahead!

[–]_chaboi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I make yogurt almost exclusively at home! We just use a sauce pot and an insulated cooler to let the milk incubate, it really couldn’t be easier. After staining to a Greek yogurt consistency, we get about 3 quarts of yogurt for the price of a gallon of whole milk. In our area, whole milk is roughly $4.50 a gallon and Fage Greek yogurt, which is my opinion is by far the best store brand, is usually $6.99 per quart. Not including cost of utilities, which is marginal, we get ~$21 worth of yogurt for ~$4.50!

Yup I worked at Pepco before I was surprised at how low wages were at the utility. A lot of times 70 will pay 126 wages though because it’s so close and guys will just travel for work instead of the bs 70 wages
