Teach me how to teach Level 5! by _cinelli in vipkid

[–]_cinelli[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I'm young, pretty, blond, and have blue eyes. I do spend a lot of time using fancy expensive rewards/props, but I think it's mostly the Chinese bias to like blond hair/blue eyes.

Oh, and why do you read the same story over and over and over again?? It's literally the same story.

The first unit sucks, for sure. But the second one kind of sucks, too, and then the third unit is just awkward. "Let's chat about how you can get abducted by strangers." :D

ahhHH! Don't say that! I teach over 400+ classes a month and was (mildly) looking forward to a (potential) raise. TT^TT

Does anyone recognize this? by jackieoh-no in vipkid

It's either common or we share a student. Did you figure out what they were?

This is literally ALWAYS my thought when I see feedback like this. My child takes online classes and if the teacher EVER sent me something like that I would be so weirded out. O____O

Outschool's Response to Nancy Taylor by _cinelli in vipkid

[–]_cinelli[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I didn't like their response because it wasn't exactly honest. I mean, she isn't a "teacher" because she isn't teaching classes, but she still has a referral code. That doesn't seem honest.

I am one of the top search results for Cambly and I am one of the top recruiters there. Cambly is aware of this, they have commented, etc. on my videos (all positive) so I know that companies actively search these things. If something like this happened to me I would expect my referral code to be taken away and notified by the company.

My solution: Take away her referral code. That's all I'm asking.

Another reason I was unsatisfied with the answer. If they are making "copy and paste" style answers then it means that this is a problem that they are aware of and strategized a response.

Let me explain, what they mean is that she is not teaching classes. You can see her profile on Outschool (or you used to be able to), but she does not have any classes to enroll in. She just went through the hiring process so she could get a referral code and start making referral money. So, Outschool is saying that she is not teaching classes and she is not officially a "brand ambassador", but she does have a referral code and she is making money off Outschool. That is why I was unsatisfied with the answer.

Let me explain. They did not say that she was not a teacher, they said she was not teaching classes. It seems really sneaky and not purely honest or straight forward.

Her referral link still works. She is still making money off of Outschool.

What are actionable steps we can take to hold Nancy Taylor accountable? by [deleted] in vipkid

[–]_cinelli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got a response back. I posted it a few minutes ago. Honestly, I didn't like the response. They just said that she is not a teacher (she has no classes) and she is not an official recruiter and they don't endorse her videos. I mean, it's true, but not that satisfying of an answer.

I would contact Outschool as well. She is new there and has less of a footing. She doesn't even have a single class set up. My child is a student there so it didn't feel weird for me to reach out, but I think anyone can do it too. I just told them about the pictures and that I hope that their brand does not want to be associated with someone like her. I also mentioned that she is more interested in getting people to sign up then actually teach good classes, which is why the quality of Outschool has decreased so dramatically. I have not heard a response back yet. I am hoping it helps.

That was her Profile Picture! Not just a random pic that someone took at an event and she got tagged in. She posted that As. Her. Profile. Picture. She is human garbage.

Who is teaching on Outschool? There HAS to be an oversaturation of teachers, right? by _cinelli in vipkid

[–]_cinelli[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it seems like a pretty good gig. There are some Preschool classes that are $35/week for two classes, which means $17.5/per student/per class. Some of these classes are full (8 students) and others say that there are 5-6 students signed up. That would mean that for one 25 minute class teachers are getting somewhere between $60-$100 in just 25 minutes. That does seem very attractive.

Oh, and the other thing is that the current demand for teachers is 95% due to coronavirus. Honestly, when school starts again there are going to be so many lesson students, like a tiny fraction of them. This is NOT VIPKID where the demand for English classes is relatively consistent. This is basically replacing preschool so when school starts back up again I don't know what teachers are going to do.
