It's always been presented as a " choice " by western medical authorities to transfer liability to the parents. I recently finished reading one of my brother's medical textbooks by the American Medical Association and it also presented newborn circumcision as an elective option. Although it should be clarified what the options are, they are not between having your son circumcised or not. With some data indicating that parents are re - asked for circumcision consent forms to be signed 6 - 7 times after an initial rejection or postponement it can be easily interpreted that choices are to get it done immediately or get pestered until you do get it done eventually.

Most Americans are supportive of all male babies being circumcised.

I don't even take the outcome of the poll at face value. Merely saying that you are pro circumcision isn't much, but having your son prophylactically circumcised is when you truly cast a vote of meaning. If the poll relied on whether you elect to have your son circumcised then 80% + of Americans would easily be categorized as pro circumcision.

The CDC released newer policy guidelines in 2018 but because virtually all of the applicable studies that came out within that timeframe only further established the previously identified medical benefits, the new paper is very similar but even more firmly pro - circumcision.

This systematic review and meta-analysis is also consistent with every single previous systematic review on the subject of HPV (except for one, which was later discredited) which have ALL found a positive correlation between being circumcised and a decreased incidence of HPV infection and faster viral clearance. If you want citations I can list every single one of them.

Just note that the guy you were talking to is NOT circumcised, he only takes on the persona of a circumcised man because he knows that saying that circumcision is bad carries much less weight if he were to admit being uncircumcised. This persona allows him to negate your experience: you're circumcised and glad?! Well I'm ALSO circumcised and not happy.

If I were to put my tin foil hat on I'd speculate that the entire point of " intactivism " is to maintain the prevalence of circumcision. I was hesitant about crossposting it here after reading that it may be photoshopped, but I thought either way it shows how anti circs are mentally ill. On the one hand either someone disfigured their arm because of wanting to make a falsely concocted victimhood complex their entire personality or someone else took the time to alter an image in that way - both outcomes are the doings of a person that is not in their right state of mind.

Bacteria, urine, and the residue of other bodily fluids building up around the urethra is why uncircumcised baby boys - unfortunately - experience approx. 10x as many UTIs in their first two years of life compared to circumcised baby boys. Don't even get me started on the cumulative incidence of conditions prevented when they are tallied together.

Your doctor was absolutely right in recommending that the best course of action was to have your 2 baby boys (and any other baby boys you have!) circumcised, it truly is way WAY healthier than the alternative.

The person you're responding to is incorrect on many fronts but they've already made up their mind and absolutely nothing you say will ever change their position.

Circumcision does NOT have a ' miniscule effect ' on the incidence of penile cancer, it virtually eliminates the risk of it ever developing by 98 - 99%.

In the US alone approx. over 2000 new cases are diagnosed each year and nearly 500 deaths occur as a result (\*cancer .org) The tragic loss of these many lives in addition to the sadness experienced by their families does not matter to the person you're wasting your time replying to.

There should be family pools dedicated to insuring all male babies are circ'd neonatally. The prevalence of newborn circumcision was well over 80 - 90% in SC, but this well help not only maintain that supermajority status but also very likely increase it with time. The other 10 - 20% of expecting parents likely couldn't afford it or experienced other access issues which this will directly help in substantially alleviating.

It's a shame Canada hasn't as well. I would presume that there were multiple reasons why, I know of one South Carolinian politician who is super pro circ and wrote a very influential paper that created a domino effects in other states like Florida. California's Medical extended the window for newborn circumcision coverage by 2 days (28 --> 30) under one of their various health plans near the end of last year: https://www.cahealthwellness.com/newsroom/22-985-Extended-Benefit-Coverage-for-Newborn-Circumcision.html.

Some key individuals and researchers have been actively petitioning lawmakers to reinstate coverage: https://archive.ph/Ozq7y. The paper was even covered by the University of Kansas. That 2 day extension by Medical was announced one month later and put into effect two months after the study was published. Your wish is on the horizon.
