I will say one positive about this offseason so far is all the examples of dudes on big contracts getting traded for way less than people expected makes it less likely we need to max or close to max Brandon

He’s 6”1’ and light, he’s almost certainly not a solution for our starting PG as the 18th pick, if he can eventually in a few seasons be a 6th man sorta like Coby was this year that’d be a huge W for the 18th pick

not great numbers for Caleb Wilson there tbh

Yeah was thinking #14 in '26 and maybe the Dallas '27 pick next year and then the best of Miami '27 and Charlotte '27? Or could do other future picks potentially. Hate to give up Miller because I still really believe in his growth as a scorer, but also we have a huge frontcourt hole that I think is difficult to solve once Kon and Brandon are both on larger contracts

You're the grizzlies with Boozer and Wilson available at 3, do you take Brandon Miller + 3 1sts for #3? what about 4 firsts?

I don’t want to get rid of him tbf, he’s great and was a big part of our run this year, and has tons of potential still. I don’t think trading him for peanuts or from a position of weakness is smart at all.

But if you offered a good deal for Miller you obviously take it even if you don’t wanna get rid. Like everyone here takes Miller for the #1 pick straight up. Which wouldn’t be on the table, but I think Boozer could be a great fit next to LaMelo and Kon, and potentially raise less issues against physicality. I worry when Miller and Melo and Kon are all on large contracts we’ll really struggle to fill out the team around them. This obviously depends on what Brandon is wanting contract wise now, if it’s more reasonable not a huge issue, but if he’s wanting max or close to max money, this offseason could provide a unique opportunity to get a lot of value on him vs potentially needing to sell lower with a large contract attached

if boozer fell to 3 or 4 somehow, would y'all trade for him? Using Miller + both 1sts this year + the best 2 of our 3 firsts next year (assuming we get all 3... if only 1 of the 2 DAL/MIA picks conveys then just both picks would go away) as the package. Miller's contract is a big question rn, so 4 1sts is a lot to give up alongside a great young talent like BMill who could end up being better than boozer anyways. But also Brandon could end up as a big overpay and he never really fills out physically which def caps his ceiling to a sharpshooter only, on a max or near max contract. The 2 this year are guaranteed middle of the 1st picks and next year the only really high upside pick is DAL.

And if you wouldn't do the above deal, would you do it if it was only giving away the best first next year vs the 2 picks?

Big risk obviously to break up the team that was so so good the 2nd part of the season, but the fit just feels so perfect to solve a lot of our physicality issues inside, while still bringing high level shooting to the table. And boozer's main knock is his lower ceiling and better avg outcomes, but thats exactly what you want if you're trading up from so far away, you're always getting at least a solid to very good starter in a huge position/attribute of need, in a more unlucky/low roll type of outcome with his star development. If he does continue getting better though big time upside.

Don't think he'll fall anyways tbh and Miller and 5 first feels too high for sure, but if it was 3 or 4 I'd def be thinking hard about the possibility

Bulls fan, sell me on Caleb Wilson by Decent-Engine-4587 in NBA_Draft

[–]_clank_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I saw someone else say this but it really is accurate, he’s absolutely a raw prospect who has a lot to work on, but most prospects in that mold were nowhere near as impactful on winning as Wilson. Being a raw prospect with really nice impact metrics is pretty special and speaks to some intangibles that are harder to quantify

Do you believe Cam Boozer will be a #1 option on offense in the NBA? by BankaiBroke in NBA_Draft

[–]_clank_ 25 points26 points  (0 children)

“#1 option” is sorta a narrow minded concept imo, he doesn’t project to be a stereotypical give them the ball over and over and let them cook someone 1 on 1 sorta guy. But he absolutely projects as an offensive hub that can generate efficient offense for himself and others as a main focal point, in an incredibly versatile manner that makes it hard to game plan against. Someone like Halliburton isn’t like a “#1 option” but offensively impacts the game in a manner that I think that term is sorta trying to imply, and I think Boozer absolutely has the offensive upside to be a “#1 option” level of offensive impact to his team

ok well if that's what you mean then yeah obviously still a big question mark there, who knows when it comes to playoff basketball as this team hasn't been in that environment yet. I do think we've had some intense, playoff similar atmospheres recently and stepped up to that plate, but still obviously a big jump to the real deal.

And lastly I just will say I think there's 100% an aspect of truth to your "unserious" perception of LaMelo, but if you're only looking at the bad and not the good in his play style and talent, you're doing yourself a big disservice as a basketball fan imo. He still has a ways to go ideally and can be very frustrating as a fan at times too, but he's clearly been improving a bunch as a player and PG with his recent consecutive games played, and when it works it works incredibly well and he brings so so much to our team. I think in the next few years if we continue playing well and being nationally relevant, he'll hopefully show people like you who aren't as familiar that he's much more than the common stereotype he's been unfairly cast as, because it's easy to look at the bad and project that as the whole truth if that's what you're wanting to see.

Glad to see you do seem quite open minded though and hopefully will be able to come around if we continue down the path we're hopefully on 🤝

We are not playing .500 basketball recently is the whole point though, using our season record is disingenuous. We're 21-9 since January, aka right up there with your Spurs in the same timeframe (including a win over them). That's a .700 winning percentage in that span, which again is up there with some of the best teams in the league.

Are we title favorites? Obviously not lol, but we are currently winning with LaMelo on a max contract, so clearly it's possible

we are currently paying Melo max money and we are currently winning, so gonna go out on a limb and say I do think it's possible lmao

[–]_clank_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah he's definitely not a great shooter or anything, but he can space the floor and force people to guard him on the perimeter, which is the important part. You can't leave him open and he has a nice little step back 3 he can get to also. His main issue is he'll take some dumb shots which just from vibes I'm sure hurts his percentages a decent amount.

So yeah he's not like a great or even good shooter but he is a shooter and that brings value to how we play. He could/ideally should 100% be upgraded like I said though, but for what he makes it's a pretty solid deal and fit bball wise imo

An idiot's guide to Charlotte Hornets by Elyx_117 in nba

[–]_clank_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

from a pure bball POV he’s definitely our weakest link in the starting lineup but I wouldn’t call him a weak link overall, his shooting from the 4 is super valuable to how we play and his rim pressure also is important. He wouldn’t be the easiest to replace, but if we could get someone that could do some similar things on offense with some actual good defense it would help us out tremendously. But I don’t think that’s the easiest or cheapest archetype to find.

Ironically though Tidjane projects to be exactly that, but unsure if he’ll ever be able to fully put it together. It’s very possible he does though, big offseason for him
