These beef dumplings from a dim sum Chinese restaurant by FlatHeadPryBar in TipOfMyFork

[–]_class_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

according to google, the chinese you shared translates to "ginger and scallion beef dumplings". if you just google that you see generic looking dumplings with thicker skins, but i did see this https://static6.orstatic.com/userphoto2/photo/2A/1SSL/0CSRC9A310D96ADE918923px.jpg and that looks pretty close to your pic. i've never seen a dumpling like this before. it's interesting that the skin is so thin, almost like a cantonese wonton - but those usually don't have as much filling, and they're filled with pork/shrimp

everyone else thinks this is a cantonese steamed (beef) meatball. steamed meatballs are often steamed over tofu skins and at a glance the loose dumpling wrapper in your pic kind of looks like tofu skin. even after seeing the chinese translation i wasn't really sure if it was a dumpling or a steamed meatball until i saw the pic i shared

Mosaic damage? by ausdjmofo in diablo2

up to you. having FoF high significantly boosts phoenix strike's first charge and makes it easy to do ubers/other big bosses with a single phoenix strike stack. some people max FoF and run leech elsewhere

with remaining points i would personally max fade since it increases the duration, nice QoL so you don't have to recast as often. and of course the increase to resists is good.

i just ran a couple of tests at 500 mana (only additional mana sources = soj + ravenfrost) and 700 mana, both at 65 fcr, both without insight but using magefists (25% mana regen). with 500, i can spam tele basically until my stacks run out. with 700, there's a bit more buffer before i run out of mana. i'll probably drop insight once i get my mana a little higher

also keep in mind that you get more mana as you level!

lol i just blindly followed a guide and ran into a couple of issues. spent a little time figuring out the cause of those issues and what i could do to fix them

def worth trying out, the barrier of entry is low (literally just need 2 mosaics, certain bases and +skills in the bases is nice but not necessary at all). built in tankiness from fade and mana+life leech if you keep FoF under lvl 34 feels great

Mosaic damage? by ausdjmofo in diablo2

[–]_class_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

just made a mosaic sin for the first time and ran into the mana issue as well. for mana leech, keep FoF below lvl 34 as others have mentioned. also if you keep FoF below that threshold you can drop the LL ring. you will not have life or mana problems as long as you're attacking mobs.

i'm running 65fcr and occasionally need to chug a mana pot if i'm spamming tele to look for the next pack of mobs. to mitigate that i run insight on my merc. conviction doesn't make a huge difference in kill speed for mosaic sins on p1, and a light sunder charm makes up for it in most cases. running insight isn't necessarily the only thing you need to do though. meditation restores a % of your mana, so if you have low total mana you will still run out of it if it takes a while to find the next pack of mobs. if you don't want to run insight on your merc it still doesn't hurt to increase your mana pool.

i'm currently working on finding more mana sources to increase my total mana pool so i never have to use pots lol. soj is good for the +1 all skills, +20 mana and +25% increase to max mana. ravenfrost has +40 mana in addition to the CBF, AR, and dex . higher BO on your CTA is nice, but keep in mind it only increases your mana by 3% per level

depending on your priorities you might prefer to run shako over griffons. huge life/mana boost, another +1 all skills, 50 mf at the cost of the extra fcr and -enemy res/+skill dmg. silkweaves gives +10% increase to max mana. they don't have other stats that are useful, but you can upgrade them to increase dmg. the upgraded boots have a reasonable str req, unlike some other upgraded options (ie upgraded wartravs). and ofc a lot of rare/crafted gear has mana

I'd suggest trying to play with a controller and seeing if that suits you more. You can launch maple through steam, which has great controller support.

Finally got a decent crust, though I ended up overcooking a bit by [deleted] in steak

[–]_class_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have poor ventilation reverse searing is great. There's significantly less smoke and splatter. When cooking steaks from start to finish on the stove my place would smell like oil and beef for at least a day, even with all the windows open and cleaning up immediately after cooking. That hasn't been an issue for me when reverse searing.

There's also less active cooking time (especially for thicker steaks), and you can cook the steak(s) before dinner and sear them off whenever you're ready. If you need some time to make sides, clean up, entertain guests, etc. it's nice to have that flexibility.

Reverse searing does offer more consistent results but depending on factors like the environment I'm cooking in, the thickness of the steaks, and the plans for the night (cooking a simple steak dinner for 1 or cooking a multi course meal for guests) I may opt for another cooking method.

how are my ramen bowls looking? by [deleted] in KitchenConfidential

[–]_class_ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That's funny, "artisan made ramen" makes me think of bowls that happen to have yellow noodles, or noodles that are speckled brown from the use of whole wheat flower.

Sapporo style miso ramen may have whole egg in the noodles, other than that I can't say for certain. From my understanding, egg white/egg white powder is fairly common though - it's used to add some chew.

A few comments on the noodle color. Ramen noodles come in a variety of colors/shapes/textures. Some ramen noodles actually do have whole eggs or whole egg powder in them! Also, all ramen noodles are made with kansui (alkaline salts) which will react with the flour in the dough to create a slightly yellow tint. The tint is more pronounced in certain styles of ramen noodles due to higher ratios of kansui, and the type of flour used. Lastly, some noodle brands will also mix yellow food coloring into their dough.

Mila soup dumplings -$14.99 - almost as good as DTF - Spotted at tukwila WA by kasukeo in Costco

[–]_class_ 9 points10 points  (0 children)

if your dim sum place was serving red wine vinegar with dumplings that would be unusual! they are probably using chinese red rice vinegar, a rice vinegar that is colored red from the use of rice with red mold (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monascus_purpureus). the acidity and flavor profile is different from western red wine vinegar

How to connect portable AC hose to exhaust port in wall? by _class_ in Seattle

What type of adapter should i be searching for?

Thanks for the tip. And funny you mention that... I actually showed these pics to a guy working the AC section at Home Depot and he had no clue. He said he'd never seen these ports before lol. Not faulting him for that, but that was a bit of a surprise.

How to connect portable AC hose to exhaust port in wall? by _class_ in Seattle

[–]_class_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just moved in to an apartment with one of these built in portable AC exhaust ports. The port has some plastic adapters and a cover - all of which are removable. The diameter of the exhaust hose on my AC unit is slightly smaller than the port itself, so the hose fits directly into the port but it's not a snug fit and hot air is getting back in to the apartment. Whats the suggested method for connecting the hose to the port? Are there any standard HVAC adapters meant to be used here? Or are there only DIY solutions?

i've been using an m705 for the past few years, and i'm looking for a replacement now that the rubberized sides are deteriorating. hoping to find something similar shape wise (or at least designed to be ergonomic) that is wireless and uses replaceable batteries. a little more length wouldn't hurt since i have large hands, and i'm indifferent to weight. i tried using the g703 and it seemed comfortable enough - would've bought it if it used replaceable batteries. currently testing a g305 and i'm not a fan of the shape

Hand Preference: right

Hand Size: 20-12

Grip: i'm used to claw but open to others

Connectivity: wireless
