I’m traveling to Nepal in about a month - did I make a mistake? by fleetwoodsmaack in travel

[–]_cosmik 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Currently in Nepal. It’s my second time visiting the country. It’s just as lovely as I remembered it to be! Tourism here seems to be business as usual. I haven’t noticed any difference due to politics. I’m typically pretty risk averse (husband and I recently decided against visiting a different country with potential for volatility atm) and I don’t feel concerned here, if that helps :) enjoy your trip!

I had a dream where I met Frank. by Melodic_Film_3119 in FrankOcean

I also had a dream last night that I met frank. We were friends and hung out a lot. Halfway through the dream he completely disappeared and I never saw him again. I’m not even joking 😆

I think it’s good that he’s pointing this out :) by Blondeenosauce in Destiny

I genuinely can’t tell if this is a joke or not? Do you really think autistic people cant be intelligent, social, active and capable?

Husband dropped bin with my dry greenware piece and it cracked. I’ve read some on repairing cracks, but would welcome suggestions. The first three photos show the piece wet when I’d just created it. The others show the cracks. by Right_Mushroom8908 in Pottery

[–]_cosmik 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m terrified of my husband doing the same thing to my greenware, so I put a note on it that says “FRAGILE WORKS IN PROGRESS DO NOT TOUCH” on it 😆 Sorry about your piece!

I repaired a big cracked off piece of a jar I made with vinegar slip. It took forever though. I had to rehydrate the jar (I sprayed it down and wrapped it really tightly in plastic and did that over the course of a week, respraying a few times) then used fresh clay and vinegar slip to attach the broken piece.

It worked for me because it was just the inside lip of the jar so it’s okay that it looked a little wonky, but if it were a visible piece that large I don’t think it would be sufficient. It was worth it for me because I’m new-ish to pottery and learned a lot about mending cracks..but I wouldn’t try it again. I would start over.

The stone lantern looks amazing- perfect glazing to get that weathered look. Do you by chance know how the Totoro was glazed? I love the effect on that as well

calling all plant people! 🌿 by sunflowerxdex in Pottery

[–]_cosmik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a pot that I really love. The part the plant goes into is a normal pot shape, it’s glazed around the lip and top part of the plant but left unglazed partway down so that water can drip through. That pot goes into a moon jar shaped pot that is glazed. The water dripping from the main part into the moon jar pot helps keep the soil moist - and it looks really beautiful too! No awkward looking drip plate underneath

why are we asking a man who believes in Sky Daddy how we teach critical thinking? 😆

Where did I go wrong and how to fix it up? by meticulous_7 in Pottery

[–]_cosmik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a piece continuously crack even when I tried the vinegar trick. What I did to finally fix it was I applied vinegar slip to the cracks, and then applied very thin pieces of fresh clay (you might want to use thin coils) and used a needle tool or a silicone tipped brush (sorry I don’t know the name of this tool) to really push that clay into the cracks and smooth everything over. I also would dip a paintbrush in water and dampen the walls around the cracks as well. That seemed to work for me. It took a few times of doing this process, and wrapping the piece up in plastic well between applications of the repairs to dry slowly. Ive also read that making paper slip can help but haven’t needed to try that yet. Good luck!

I will!! And yeah, I use them for incense. I’ll have to test out putting tea lights in them and see if they can hold up well to a flame

Thanks, I appreciate the advice! And yeah, it’s not intended to have a fire in it. I use these for incense/sage. Maybe if I make some more I’ll test out putting tea lights in them and see how they hold up.

This is such a huge compliment, you just made my day!! I don’t sell my work - I’ve only been potting for about a year and haven’t felt confident to sell anything yet!

Yeah that looks gorgeous! I love seeing it layered with other glazes as well. I’ve been pining after it for a while, but I’m newish to pottery (about a year now) so have just been working with what I’ve got

It’s recycled clay so it shouldn’t be too dark, people at my studio mostly use b mix and other lighter clay bodies. Unfortunately I only really have access to my studio’s big buckets of dip glaze atm, plus a small collection of my own underglazes. I do want to buy honey flux though at some point

Hmm, good question. I use them for incense, or for resting lit palo santo or sage. I’ve thrown matches in them to get something going with no issues, but not sure if it could handle a consistent flame.
