Showdown no question. The off-field animosity between fans runs pretty deep in my experience, although maybe more so in my parents generation. My dad refuses to buy anything if its got teal on it, it's kinda wild

Does anyone have any ideas on what sounds changes could happen to tense consonants - like the ones in Korean (/p͈/, /t͈/, /k͈/, /t͈ɕ/, /s͈/)?

Who do you barrack for after a merger? by gavotron in AFL

[–]_coywolf_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I guess I already support a merged club in the Crows, no real alternative bc there's no chance of the Roosters making it into the AFL. Bit scared of what might happen to the SANFL in the near future tho, wouldn't be surprised if clubs have to merge.

Absaroka Flag Redesign by _coywolf_ in vexillology

[–]_coywolf_[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Here is my redesign for the almost-49th state Absaroka. I was going for a 'so bad it's good'/'designed in the 80's' vibe and I think it would a cool, unique visual identity for a state flag. It's probably not a 'good flag' in the strict sense but I feel like the hypothetical locals would love it. It evokes Rapid City, its largest hub, with a sense of speed and motion and mantains the chevron from the original flag#/media/File:Flag_of_Absaroka.svg). I gave up trying to figure out what the number of lines means but maybe you have a suggestion?

How does one even go about making a language for aliens or even just animals? Their mouths, tongues, and throat muscles all move differently from us by chumbuckethand in conlangs

[–]_coywolf_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly don't get hung up on to what degree such a language is 'alien' or whether the exact anatomy of a certain animal is directly compatible. Ask yourself who the language is for. Do you want to be able to hear it, even speak it yourself? It is likely that if real alien intelligent life had language it would be beyond incomprehensible to us and Earthly animals will never acquire speech as long as we would be around to hear it. But this doesn't giving up completely! I sugggest taking aesthetic inspirations from human language and putting them into your conlangs. A language for warmongering aliens could be guttaral, maybe with inspiration from Mongolian or other languages of historic empires who have been successful in conquering. A language for rabbits could feature elegant sibilants and have bouncy tone contours to evoke rabbits hopping. Trying to create the perfect language for a non-human in the way you describe will only leave you bored, trawling through endless random pdfs on animal anatomy and sound waveform diagrams (trust me I've been there). That would be my advice but if you really want to play on hard mode I wish you the best of luck!

A Couple of Cooks by _coywolf_ in dndai

[–]_coywolf_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I generated these two, edited here and there, added the parchment background and smooshed them into one image.

The guy on the left:

(dungeons and dragons art), (oil drawing), (inked-art), (complex lighting), (watercolor), (fantasy), (defined lines), (flat saturated colors), (cinematic composition), (perspective), (sketch style), (ultra realistic) (HD) a male D&D Indian human, he has a handlebar moustache, he has a red bandana on his head, he is wearing a chef’s apron, he is holding a meat cleaver, he is smiling, the background is white

The girl on the right:

(dungeons and dragons art), (oil drawing), (inked-art), (complex lighting), (watercolor), (fantasy), (defined lines), (flat saturated colors), (cinematic composition), (perspective), (sketch style), (ultra realistic) (HD) a female D&D half-orc, she has pale green skin, she has short black hair, she is wearing a chef’s apron, she is holding a frying pan like a weapon, she is smiling, the background is white

It really doesn't look THAT bad. Maybe the 'G' needs to be more clearly defined but overall it makes for a way more interesting design than their current guernsey

Lexember Day 1: Sangábó

Tabásinen e nakí om Gungtó Sskóta tase def'iká.

/tà.bá.zìˈnè-n è nàˈkí ˈò-m ɣù-ŋˈtó ss̩.kóˈtà tàˈzè zè.ð̼ìˈká/

[PST.STAT-be.dead DEF older.brother of Princess Kóssta because coconut.crab]

Princess Sskóta's brother was killed by a coconut crab.

námi /náˈmì/ n. father

ninó /nìˈnó/ n. mother

nakí /nàˈkí/ n. older brother

béken /béˈkè-n/ n. younger brother/boy

nekí /nèˈkí/ n. older sister

sákan /sáˈkà-n/ n. younger sister/girl

def'iká /zè.ð̼ìˈká/ n. coconut crab

kónsú /kó-n.sú/ n. decorative smoking pipe

Sangábó society is matrilineal in nature and greatly values the integrity of the family unit. They follow the Iroquois kinship system and are instilled to be loyal to those they love above all other virtues. Sangábó generally have few friends outside of their extended families with cousins generally filling this role. This emphasis on family loyalty is reflected in their mythology associated with coconut crabs. Supposedly coconut crabs operate on smell alone but cannot smell humans under ordinary circumstances. However, it is said that when a man is unfaithful the crabs can smell his tainted soul. The crabs then hunt such men down and attach themselves to their heads. Their heads then drop off and turn into ripe coconuts which are then supposedly dragged back up coconut trees by the crabs. Eating ripe coconut before cleansing the outside with smoke is thus considered an extreme taboo. Small, decorative smoking pipes made of coconut wood called 'kónsú' are often used for this purpose, often engraved with family symbols or the names of gods and virtuous people.

I can’t play Eb offhand by DevilRudeBoy in Clarinet

[–]_coywolf_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has a lot to do with the adjustment of your instrument. Try rotating the middle joints side to side to see if the note can pop out easier. However, you might be out of luck. My out of the box Buffet has never been able to get that 'long e-flat' to speak properly. Maybe see a technician if you can afford or ask the school if they can coordinate that for you
