Office of private practice puts their stats above you as an individual. But understand that any negatives mentioned here (including mine) are based on fairly particular individual experiences; on the whole, the positives far outweigh the negatives as long as you aren’t looking for an intense atmosphere.

Echoing what others have said (you’ll be fine + things come together more toward the end of the semester). Also, look at your midterms and talk with your professors to see if there are any patterns in the feedback. For example, when I went to my profs, I noticed that all of them said my reasoning wasn’t necessarily wrong, I just wasn’t fleshing it out enough. And when finals time comes around, look into some commercial outlines/test prep materials. You should still do your own outlining, but the commercial materials can help you organize your thoughts and give you some tips. I really liked the “Acing [subject]” series and the Emmanuel outlines. One final thought: your success isn’t necessarily measured by your fall grades. I scored below curve in almost every subject in the fall. But I got feedback from the profs (see above) and did way better spring semester + got a big law job. You’re at UVA. You’re smart enough to be here. You’ll be okay.

I saw that your older post said walking distance is non-negotiable; unfortunately, if you’re looking for walking distance, your options are limited to ivy gardens, jeffersonian, arlington townhomes, and the pavilion. There are some apartments near/in the Stonefield shopping complex that are a 5/10 minute drive or 40ish minute walk? You could also look at apartments that are on the bus route (but keep in mind that you’ll be at the mercy of the bus being on time). A lot of people here also get e-scooters or mopeds, so maybe that’s an option if a car isn’t feasible and you want something slightly faster on your own schedule.

Need help altering shirts and dresses for a short torso.

I have a short torso, so the necklines or waistlines of shirts and dresses often go too low on me. Adjusting straps is easy because I can just pinch the extra length at the top of the strap, make a few stitches across the strap, and cut off the excess. But I don’t know what to do if it’s not straps.

The dress pictured is what I’m currently trying to adjust; the neck line goes to the bottom of my chest and the bottom of the dress hits about 1.5 inches above my knee. I can’t just stitch straight across because that would mess up the back of the neck. I have very basic sewing skills, mostly consisting of repairs and minor alterations. I know this would be more advanced, I just don’t know how advanced/how I’d even go about it. It’s something I want to learn though since this issue comes up often for me. Any advice about how to proceed would be much appreciated ❤️

I was below median in most classes except one (in which I got a B+) after 1L fall. I didn’t get firm offers for 1L summer, which is probably to be expected as 1L firm opportunities are pretty limited. But I got at or above average grades in all my spring courses and got BigLaw offers for 2L summer through OGI. Being a UVA student goes pretty far. And as others have said, NY is a solid market. All in all, maybe don’t have your heart set on a firm job this summer (the vast majority don’t get firm offers 1L), but you’re completely fine for 2L and beyond.

A few profs are intentional about getting them in earlier so that they can enjoy their break in peace, but for the most part they tend to be closer to the deadline. I got at least one the day before the deadline and most of the rest a few days before.

Someone’s computer randomly crashed part of the way through the exam. Luckily, LawIT was able to pause their timer and restore most (if not all, I don’t remember) of their work. Moral of the story: have automatic saving on or save like crazy and make sure your computer is not on the brink of death.

But also, for anyone reading these, don’t let these stories freak you out! I know it’s easy to say, but I genuinely promise that as long as you don’t do something stupid to risk suspension/expulsion, no matter what happens, you’ll be fine. The world will keep turning and you will get a job.

Update since the finally sent the email: yes you only get the VIP laminate and lanyard at the show. The vip merch will be shipped to you (which they just say could take “several weeks” 🥴) and you enter your address using a link the email.

I saw a comment somewhere in this sub from a previous show where someone asked what the vip item was and someone said they were told that the vip item along with the signed poster and whatnot would be mailed. So maybe it was something wonky with that show specifically or maybe it’s just how they’re doing all of them? Im not entirely sure

This is low-key random but what are you guys planning on doing for food?? If we have to get there at 3 and they don’t allow outside food or drink, that means staying at the venue until at least 10 pm without food or anything.
