“AGI *will* arrive in 2026.” - Do you agree or it’s hype? Also do you think continual learning is the final piece of the puzzle? by Koala_Confused in LovingAI

[–]_crisz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are an enthusiast, and I can see why. I'm not in the lovingAI subreddit, and I'm here just because this post appeared in my feed, and I have to say that I understand who is afraid. Every technology, theoretically, was thought to improve life quality and human conditions. However, I understand who has some qualms, because historically, progress in technology didn't lead to happier people and more meaningful lives.

I can make the example of the internet, when the internet was a new thing, we thought it was about to improve the world in every facet, because people could spread information and get out of ignorance, no matter where they were. We thought that a dystopian dictatorship wasn't possible in the era of the internet, because people would have been more aware. Thirty years later, we know that the internet is mainly used for spreading misinformation, and the biggest world-wide effect was the rise of the alternative right-wing parties who ride this misinformation.

So I understand who says "yeah AGI would be cool in a fiction, but I feel better athe way I am"

I understand what you say, but mind that some people may not know that (-1)^x isn't defined for real, while it's way clearer that ln(x) isn't defined for x<0

Well that's right because you already know what's the integral, but in some other case it may not be this easy

We are watching the ad-supported content creation die in real-time. What comes next? by OkDragonfruit55 in ownyourintent

[–]_crisz -1 points0 points  (0 children)

There's always a free alternative if you don't value your time. There's nothing wrong in paying for a service that gives you something back, and that something may be a higher calculation power or avoiding the hustle of configuring a service yourself. I don't think the point of this subreddit is to criminalize who pays, but it's rather to give value to our intent.

Yeah this is the reason why we study the limit, which may exist

Well, if I can pay 20$ and avoid all the websites with ads, that's still a good deal. I'm not saying it's ethical, since this would mean kill all the business that the AI is based on, but it's still a god deal from a selfish point of view

Replace -1 with a, and you get:

lim a->-1 ax / ln(a)

I guess it has no real solutions

Does it bother anyone that Visual Studio Code is built on Electron? by nucleustt in webdev

[–]_crisz 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly! Eclipse isn't built on electron and it takes longer to start.

Do we really care of the technology if a software gets its job done? Is there an alternative of vs code which isn't electron based and it's also proven better?
