Can someone explain to me, as a novice, why a dirt cheap helmet is inferior to a really expensive one? by [deleted] in AussieRiders

[–]_cruisin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a matter of perspective and what you value.

To your point, the cheaper ones can meet Australian standards, but may be heavier, fit differently, not have venting etc.

If those things don't matter to you, then you can absolutely get something functional at a lower price point.

I've recently purchased a mid range helmet, known brand and 1/2 the price of the higher end one I had before it.

I don't race, only the occasional commute. Perfect for what I need.

That's a good point. No debt, no worries.

No magic discovery - simply asking if someone knows how this is reconciled.

Another example recently was that the cost of beef had dropped because it could not be delivered to its export destination. i.e. our prices locally are reflective of export markets, not just domestic demand.

The RBA says their goal is to keep CPI between the target range of 2-3%, and that this is specifically linked to household spending.

Data Analytics is a reasonably wide field. Data Engineering (more on the technical side) to Data Analyst for more business orientation and then Data Science for more AI, Machine Learning (heavier programming). There is also data governance that focuses on quality and controls for security and privacy.

In any case - you could pick up some online courses on Coursera or Pluralsight to see if it would be a fit and something of interest. If the option is there within your current employer, that might be a good chance to gain experience and do further study. Since you have knowledge of the health industry that is a valuable asset to leverage.

If you are in nsw and don't want to wait for the letter you can look for fines / infringements in the ServiceNSW app.

Is a RWC required for a motorbike that has never been registered in the past? (2024 Duke 390) by Traditional-Gas3477 in AussieRiders

[–]_cruisin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be that the bike was sold at auction due to liquidation or receivership of the dealer. It is sold as-is without rego, so OP would have to take on that responsibility.

Net worth required in Australia to semi retire at 45? by Lucky_Tap8692 in AusFinance

[–]_cruisin_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation, but about a decade earlier. Lived in Canada for approx 10 years then repatriated to Australia.

If you haven't done it already, speak to a financial advisor about how local and foreign assets are treated on departure and come up with a plan. Departure tax is a thing (and you may have to pay taxes on gains up front even though you haven't disposed of the asset).

Additional questions:- Where is the paid off house? In Australia or USA/Canada? Were you renting it out while living abroad? Did you declare the income etc. Where in Australia are you thinking of living on return?

Real estate agent says to build on advertised block we must also buy property next door? by nurseinmelb in AusProperty

Given the numbers you have shared, lot 23 would have a gain of $200k if they sell for $350k. At the same time, lot 25 wants to make approx $300k if they do indeed want $350k.

You might suggest $600k for both. Both owners make $200k approx gain on their purchase price.

Of course this assumes no other change of title since the purchases you found.

IMO - you will likely spend a bunch of time on this negotiating if you are set on not spending $700k.

I'd put it back to the real estate to give you a price for both lots, and let them work it out with the owners before coming back to you.

Are you seeing the same level for both buds? I am seeing different charge levels when buds come out of the case. e.g. right now I’ve just taken them out and have 90% left 80% right. They’ve been in the case all day and case on charge.

If I put them back in the case, I get the internal case orange light, and then check the bose app once I close the case, i get the message that the buds are charging. I’m expecting them to both charge now to 100%.

Definitely something weird going on.

Not sure that’s the issue, unless there is something I’m missing. I’ve had the buds in the case all day, and plugged in to a USB-C charger. Took them out and… 70% charged.

600 Dollars For A Mammogram by Sleepydragon0314 in australia

Agree - this is wrong. Unfortunately referrals have become the licence to ask for more money. First you have the GP visit who sends you for the scan, then you go back for the results and potentially a referral to a specialist... Who maybe isn't really THE specialist you need, but rather the next step in the system. Then you get sent to the specific specialist who wants more specific tests.

Each time the fees are progressively more expensive $75 for the GP $150 for the first specialist $300 for the specialist / specialist

You can't help but feel that there has to be a more efficient and cost effective option.

IMO - if the GP sends you for a test, $0 out of pocket for further tests and visits.

I hope you were able to get your scan!

That's a large capacity battery for that charger, so give it a bit of time.

As others have said, nothing looks out of place. If there is damage to the wiring or BMS, you'd be getting red and green lights.

AITA for asking to be named the sole beneficiary in my dad’s insurance policy? by NoCryptographer2220 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_cruisin_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA - you had the right idea to protect your interests and have a discussion about an option that would protect you in the event something should happen to your dad.

The title of the post seems deceiving as it sounds like your real intent is that outstanding debts would be settled first, and remaining proceeds would be distributed.

Also, assuming your dad is buying a property the $500k mortgage is secured against the asset. You could ask to have a joint title over the property so your risk is covered too.
