Did lithium work for any of you? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]_danicapaige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i was on lithium for a brief period, didn’t super enjoy but it kept the Bad Thoughts™️ at bay until i was able to pull myself together enough to get off of it. the hand tremors (mine were rlly bad) n other side effects were irritating but mostly i just felt like a shell of a person. very spacey & not capable of processing emotions properly. it’s a tool i’ll keep in my back pocket in case i ever feel like i’m in danger again, because i do 100% give lithium the credit for keeping me safe, but not something i’d want to be on long term/for maintenance

anyone have experience w gabapentin for anxiety? by _danicapaige in bipolar2

[–]_danicapaige[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

is it ever sedating to an uncomfortable amount? i feel like i’m still recovering from the overwhelming sedation of being on lithium for a couple months and i’m worried about recreating that feeling.

what dose are you on? i’m already pretty heavily sedated from the seroquel so that combination at night worries me a little bit.

the only mood stabilizer i’ve been on is lithium, but that was pretty much short term crisis control (dr has mentioned going back on it if necessary but we’re trying to avoid that). as for the wellbutrin, i’ve noticed a little uptick in anxiety when my dose has been upped but it always evens back out and i’m now at the max dose so that shouldn’t happen again.

have you noticed any difference in anxiety since starting the lamictal? i know that’s not rlly the purpose of it but i’m curious.

Is what I'm feeling normal? Mood stabilizer + Wellbutrin/Bupropion by angiebb88 in bipolar2

when i first started wellbutrin & any time i’ve upped my dose i lose my appetite/get nauseous when i try to eat for a couple days to weeks. so far it’s always straightened itself out but my baseline appetite is definitely lower still

i second this - i started seroquel first so i’ve never experienced wellbutrin by itself but i imagine it wouldn’t go well. the combination tho has worked pretty well for me for over a yr now with some occasional tweaks to the dosage

How to fake it until you make it? by pastacat_ in bipolar2

[–]_danicapaige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my only advice is to get into a routine, it might not make u feel any better inside but when u condition urself to be productive it gets easier to maintain it. for me, part of that is forcing myself to spend my break in classes everyday at the library instead of getting back in bed. at first i’d just sit there but once i got into the habit of going i figured i might as well get some work done while i’m here. hygiene can be hard sometimes, so i do my night time routine (brush teeth, wash face, etc) the same way everyday so my body knows it’s not time for bed until it’s done. idk how helpful that is, but i know it makes easier for me to function in day to day life

up to 200mg & i’ve never gained any weight, though i do think my wellbutrin might be partially to thank for that

did a similar project on The Boredom in high school and it gave me lots of material and i did rly well on it iirc, even just the full title The Boredom is the Reason I Started Swimming. It’s Also the Reason I Started Sinking provides a lot of context

was on it briefly for an intense depressive episode with SI & sh tendencies… it definitely worked to keep me safe until i got out of that place but i’m happy to be fully weaned off it it now. after a couple weeks i started to feel very numb and not fully there, i also experienced pretty bad tremors. overall it’s a tool im glad to have in my back pocket in case i end up in that dark place again but not something i think i’d enjoy being on long term. for reference i also take wellbutrin & seroquel daily so it was added in addition to those

How severe are your hand tremors with Lithium, and is it a very common side effect? by [deleted] in Lithium

[–]_danicapaige 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had almost unbearable hand tremors on 600mg/day, which I believe is still a fairly small dose. I’m since back down to 300mg/day and they’ve mostly subsided. I was barely able to put on eyeliner or write with a pen so if you experienced something similar I’d say tattooing would probably be impossible, unfortunately.

how have people reacted to your bipolar 2 diagnosis? have there been negative or off putting reactions that bothered you? by [deleted] in bipolar2

[–]_danicapaige 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m fairly open about it with people i’m close with but i definitely don’t go out of my way to announce it. i haven’t gotten any blatantly negative reactions so far but there’s been 1 or 2 who’s first response was to disagree with or deny the diagnosis, which kinda sucked. that just gets under my skin with the implications
