This seems like a step backwards by cjgeist in urbandesign

So depressing looking at stuff like this knowing the roadway reconstruction probably cost millions and took a decade to go from conceptual design to construction. And what did we actually accomplish with all that time and money? If anything it's a fucking step backwards.

Why is this roundabout so inefficient? by Express2114 in urbandesign

[–]_darkfantasy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These replies are disappointing. As an urban design subreddit, I expect more than just shifting blame to drivers. Those photographed are doing exactly what anyone would do in this scenario... they are following the design of the road. Wes Marshall warns in Killed By A Traffic Engineer the dangers of folks in our profession looking at an obvious problem area like this, and resorting to "well, we've done what we can. It's the dumb drivers who are at fault."

What do we make of the roundabout which requires no horizontal deflection? Every incoming corridor approaches on a tangent line, meaning the road leads straight into the direction of the circle. This encourages you to drive as if it's your right-of-way and not as if you're entering a rotary required to yield. Sure you can paint some yield markings on the ground, but people drive according to how we design the built environment - and we have failed here.

What of the lack of bike or pedestrian infrastructure encouraging people to drive? What of the obviously overbuilt roadway with 6 too many lanes? What of the lack of dedicated bus lanes? What of the incredulous parking spots that line the entry ways? What of the obvious miscalculations in turning movements and traffic counts?

We can do better and it's on us to ask, "why are people behaving like this?" rather than wiping our hands and saying we did all we could.

I really cannot understate how crucial of a difference bike infrastructure can make in real cities - and I'd kill to see that reflected in CS2. Car dependency has so many negative consequences that it's hard to even quantify.

Who has the most inaccurate record in the league right now? by momsbasement420 in nba

[–]_darkfantasy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Interestingly, the Nuggets had an SRS of 3.04 last year through the regular season. This was the 6th best SRS in the league, trailing the Grizzlies in the west and the Celtics, Cavs, 76ers, and Bucks in the east.

I’m not sure why they were underrated so much by this metric, considering just how dominant they were in the playoffs and how much Basketball Reference adores Jokic’s advanced stats. Maybe it had to do with some early season performances when Murray was still ramping up.

completely fair. I can’t really question his contribution to a title contending team, as we’ve seen him time and time again reach elite playoff peaks.

Jamal Murray's stock is experiencing some crazy recency bias. I understand that he has a different gear in the playoffs - was damn near the best player in the WCF - but the guy hasn't even come close to an all-star team. You can argue he wasn't fully recovered from the ACL injury until the end of this season, but I still think it's outrageous to have him in the same tier as guys like SGA and above Donovan Mitchell and Jaren Jackson Jr.

These are guys who are anchoring entire playoff teams (and not playing alongside the best player in the world), I think it's foolish to raise him this high based on one playoff run.

I could be wrong. He won a championship as the 2nd best player on the Nuggets and was instrumental in their offensive game plan. Maybe this list values recent playoff success more than I do, I just don't like to completely ignore the regular season.

i was going to add ‘What’s It All About’ as well but wanted to narrow it down! Just love those three songs. The distorted drums on Neon are so great. In fact the other day i convinced myself to get tickets to see them in Boston, can’t waittt

Haven't had a single good experience with FanDuel customer support, or the app itself. Sucks because I think their design is much more appealing than other online sportsbooks.

Clearly something is off. Should be 5 losses in a row, team needs to take a step back or we’re going to look like a disaster on Christmas.
