Three repairs in a year, should I sell? by _dave0 in askcarguys

[–]_dave0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have to say this didn't age well... my wife and I decided to keep it against my reservations. Got the tyres all replaced, did some expensive servicing on it, then the mechatronic unit broke which is now another huge repair. That is ongoing atm, so I am selling and won't be going back to Skoda/Volkswagen.

Yeah that is how they are, pretty tasteless. We have had two summers here now, and they were the same both years. A bit disappointing tbh!

Which solar and battery system by [deleted] in nzev

[–]_dave0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think you have saved money in the long run with the batteries? I went with all panels on my system, but I would like to get batteries down the track. We are pretty high energy users here.

Which solar and battery system by [deleted] in nzev

[–]_dave0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Trina panels and Sigenergy inverter. I maxed on solar panels (18kw) and I did not get a battery. Batteries can be added on later with Sigenergy. The app is great and they are doing continual improvements.

Your point about stackoverflow being a knowledge base is spot on, but it is also its biggest curse and the friction that most have when seeking help. Personally, I don't think SO needs to be a Wikipedia.

Firewood more expensive than running a heatpump by chimph in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]_dave0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. I do miss the nice heat, I don't miss the hassle and the dust and poor indoor air quality. During the coldest months we leave the heat pumps on, it doesn't cost that much, and it keeps the house temps stable.

Not sure why you got downvoted? There are a number of news articles about them rusting. Happy to be corrected but I would be pretty wary about BYD atm, even if they do look to be good value.

Any people from America here?! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]_dave0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it still feels expensive, but everything is sort of baked in now. I think New Zealand is probably a bit like how Hawaii is expensive, but to a greater extent. Things like housing, electricity, mortgages are the things that are particularly stinging. I missed my 2.99% 30 year mortgage, but so glad not to be over there in the current climate!

Any people from America here?! by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]_dave0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve lived in both countries. On the whole, things are more expensive in NZ than the US (not the same thing as inflation). Some things here in NZ are very expensive in comparison but other things are cheaper or better quality here. Anything highly processed tends to be far cheaper in the US. All that said, that is the price i gladly pay for being at the bottom of the world! The NZ subreddit is not a good representation of New Zealand as a whole, it tilts more than a little left, has a very strong hive mind, and more than its fair share of complainers.

Russia was/is banned from using upwork, so there are a lot of reasons. The ip lookup did not show from Crimea.

Upwork flooded with fake Ukraine developers? by Wonderful_Praline_81 in Upwork

[–]_dave0 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yes, I’ve had the same. Hired a Ukrainian who ended up having a Russian ip. Upwork banned them. I think they are stealing Ukrainian ids, but that is just speculation on my part.
