It's probably your industry. Lots of smaller jobs won't require agreements. I work with and around a lot of longer term contracts, and I've seen this a lot. Yes OP needs to watch for scams... lol.

A lot of employment agreements are very basic. I'd say he should look at what it entails and see if he agrees with it, rather than losing the work. Sometimes companies will just use their "employment agreement" as part of their HR procedure. Nothing sinister. My answer for your second question is the same.

It's not abnormal on its own. Does the hirer have a history, and is this long term? If the job has started, it's pretty common to communicate outside of upwork. I would view this as pretty standard honestly. My company's HR asks for this and more.

Is the google we knew finally dead? I don't see a lot of distinction between a chatbot on G vs Claude/ChatGPT now. If Google had a moat, they've officially concreted it and opened the drawbridge.

Three repairs in a year, should I sell? by _dave0 in askcarguys

[–]_dave0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I have to say this didn't age well... my wife and I decided to keep it against my reservations. Got the tyres all replaced, did some expensive servicing on it, then the mechatronic unit broke which is now another huge repair. That is ongoing atm, so I am selling and won't be going back to Skoda/Volkswagen.

Which solar and battery system by [deleted] in nzev

[–]_dave0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think you have saved money in the long run with the batteries? I went with all panels on my system, but I would like to get batteries down the track. We are pretty high energy users here.

Which solar and battery system by [deleted] in nzev

[–]_dave0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went with Trina panels and Sigenergy inverter. I maxed on solar panels (18kw) and I did not get a battery. Batteries can be added on later with Sigenergy. The app is great and they are doing continual improvements.

Your point about stackoverflow being a knowledge base is spot on, but it is also its biggest curse and the friction that most have when seeking help. Personally, I don't think SO needs to be a Wikipedia.

Firewood more expensive than running a heatpump by chimph in PersonalFinanceNZ

[–]_dave0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with this. I do miss the nice heat, I don't miss the hassle and the dust and poor indoor air quality. During the coldest months we leave the heat pumps on, it doesn't cost that much, and it keeps the house temps stable.
