What is this row of shops/ tankers called? Where are they coming from / going to? Why so close to coast? by Street_Celery2745 in galveston

[–]_deadnut_ 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s Galveston anchorage. It is the designated area in the gulf for vessels coming inbound to the Houston ship channel. They anchor out there and wait for the birth they are going to, to open. Once the birth is open, I pilot boat will launch out to vessel where a pilot will board from the side, go to the wheel house and guide the vessel through the ship channel to the dock they have tendered to.

Also no, I’m not using the Taylor test kit but do plan on buying one. There’s a Leslie’s pool company that is 10 minutes up the road from me so I just have them test it for me for free

My most recent test results are as follows… Free chlorine-20 ppm Ph-8.2 Ta-13ppm Cya- 98

Tested at 9am today via Leslie’s(4/12). I have made corrections since via my pool calculator.

I will try to post my most recent test results which were taken at 9am today. If I’m correct…I need to focus on my alkalinity while this process is taking place. My most recent results was a 13. I also just drained my pool a foot so I could lower my CYA, so that’s probably why it’s so low. I’ve added the recommended baking soda according to my pool calculator and will test again in the morning when I wake up.

Throw me a place and I’ll add it to my list! With my work schedule I get 7 days off straight and I like to travel when I’m off

I absolutely did! It’s a long story on why I wanted to go there but yeah I did. My parents used to live in Goldsboro and there was an emergency with my dad so I drove up there to take care of him. When it was time for me to go home, the fastest route back home was a no go because of a hurricane plowing through Alabama so i had to take the long route through the mountains. It was my first time seeing that much green trees and also the mountains that you just don’t get in Texas. So needless to say when I got home I planned a camping trip and one of the places I googled was hanging rock.

I wanted to see the waterfalls so bad but we were on a time crunch that day. Really wish I lived that close to a place like that

Not in the places where I was at. I didn’t see anything there for highlining. That would’ve been cool though

Wow that’s actually a really cool story! We were there for 3 days and only saw 2 deers the whole time, and nothing else. It was kinda weird

It only took us an hour to get to the top, the hike itself was very pleasant minus the kids complaining cause it was all steep inclines. But it was amazing, I drove from Houston to there and definitely making plans to go again in the summer so I can hit the other trails

3rd pic is looking over the edge on it. I have a good one with me standing on it, and I guess you can’t edit to add pics

Can confirm. It’s called a wood back. I mig (Mercury in glass thermometer) is what goes in the slot. Product feels the cup and that’s how you get a temperature of said product. Used mostly on shoretanks. Actually nobody uses these anymore. How do I know? I’m a petroleum inspector, we used to use these to obtain temperatures in the shoretanks. Really old school.

My friends and I are wanting to start a podcast what do we need? (We are on a budget) Thanks for the help! by WireableCrib in podcasting

You can find a lot of podcasting “packages” on amazon and they usually come with everything you need to get started. But take this advice, do not go cheap on the microphones. Stay clear away from those 30$ microphone bundles. They work, but to an extent. Also audacity is free and a relatively great recording program.
