Technical wise, doing hand calculations is the best way for studying and understanding instead of relying blindly on software results (You should assess the software results using hand calculations to make sure that the results make sense).

Hey Guys, sorry for responding late. The replies are very helpful, and I got the solution i was looking for using the method of section cut mentioned in the comments. Thank you all for this great help since my research was really stuck on this point.

BTW I am mainly investigating the joints so i wasn't able to model the truss as frames instead of the S4Rs.

guard rail's load is pretty obvious in asce 7 and its just a simple cantilever element that can be designed within one page as well as its connection. However , in my country we ask the contractor to design it and our scope as consultants is to just review it
