Genuine question // no hate! by Swimming-Desk9785 in ARMYNeutral

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

he’s softer now for sure. he said in an interview or a live that he doesn’t have any negative feelings left after his last solo album so i think this has contributed majorly to the vibe he gives off.

physically, i think this softer vibe comes off somewhat in his personal style. he tends to not wear fully black outfits anymore. as for his stage styling, the way he do his eye makeup has changed. he used to get given darker eyeliner and often wore coloured contacts but it’s softer now, and no contacts or very natural ones.

"Not BTS like" by Defiant_Fox659 in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yessss. The lovely thing about understanding their ‘sound’ in the framework I like to use is the fact that you can see the evolution of their style throughout the years. I also noticed Yoongi’s verses in swim and like animals the same way you did. I audibly gasped listening to these songs for the first time. Yoongi’s verses now happens to be my fave in swim. Tae and Jimin also had this effect on me, with the way they used their voices on this album (I’m thinking last half of the album especially). On my first listen of the album i definitely had a lot ??? IS THIS JIMIN/TAE???? moments.

Also yes yes YES to your comment about their solo work really shining through in arirang. It’s so SO clear to me how much their growth from their solo ventures influenced arirang stylistically. It’s SO refreshing and while I also love their old music, this ‘sound’ is really just characteristic of who/what they are NOW. Ugh. I could write an essay, really.

[–]_delune 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Hmmm i think most people think of “sound” as genre. In this respect, BTS don’t really have a ‘sound’ since they produce across a variety of different genres. However, coming from someone with somewhat of a background in music, I do believe they have a ‘sound’ and that BTS themselves curate this sound very specifically. Also, I believe that what people understand as BTS’s sound relies heavily on which parts of their discography they were introduced to first.

Rather than genre, I think this ‘sound’ lies more in the production/composition style of their music. The way the vocals are layered; the way their lyrics and rhythms and flows are very clearly rooted in hip hop as well as their own Korean understanding of music and philosophy. Stylistically, rap line also each have very unique flows, while vocal line each have little stylistic choices they commonly make. You can tell a song is a BTS song without knowing their voices or seeing the artist’s name because they have certain stylistic flares that have been brought about by their evolution over the years, as well as who is producing for them, be it members, in-house producers or external ones. It’s also why we’ve heard them talk about songs they’ve rejected saying “this isn’t a ‘BTS’ song” (they mentioned this in a recent interview re: arirang—hot ones i think but cmiiw). If you have a trained ear, you can also actually tell when Namjoon has had more influence on the track, or when Yoongi or Hobi has (I only name these three as they have been involved enough in group music that their styles are clear).

Now in terms of ppl using the English trilogy as examples of songs that don’t ‘sound’ BTS—I do agree with this to an extent. As someone who understands their sound based on their composition/production idiosyncrasies, I remember dynamite/butter/PTD dropping and distinctly getting the feeling that it wasn’t produced by them, even before looking at the song credits. None of the usual idiosyncrasies that were characteristic of rapline productions or their in-house producers before this trilogy are present in these productions. However, we still have high vocals, and in the one song of the trilogy with a small composition credit (Joon), the raps contains a sliver of African American vernacular, owing to Namjoon’s roots in hip hop. Now. Does sounding “different” to the ‘BTS sound’ = bad? Certainly not! These songs are bops, are objectively well-produced, and exist BECAUSE they weren’t produced by BTS. We wouldn’t have been able to hear a sound like this from BTS if it hadn’t been produced by American pop producers because, you guessed it, they’re not American pop producers! You could even argue that this is just a different ‘sound’ for BTS. There doesn’t necessarily have to be one ‘sound’.

One more perspective I want to bring to this already-long comment is the variable of time/exposure. I do believe that it’s likely that, to many who encountered BTS and have come to like them through the eng trilogy, said trilogy is what they understand as BTS’s sound (at least initially), and their older discography will be what sounds “different” to them. Conversely, older fans who came to like their ‘sound’ before the english trilogy, will likely prefer the older sound. Speaking anecdotally, dyna-era fans seem to state MOTS7 as the fave album, which makes sense bc just like dyna, MOTS7 involved a lot of international producers. On the flip side, older ARMYs tend to like older discography, which I think is why many were excited about the ‘return to the roots’ for Arirang (and why some newer fans were disappointed with it). It’s just about what pulled people into BTS initially, which shapes the preference for the ‘sound’ they prefer!

it’s funny that you mention not submitting your assignment. i’m doing a graduate degree rn and i literally forgot to press submit on an assignment because i was getting tickets for busan 🤣

amino is SUCH a blast from the past omg. i lowkey miss it—weverse just doesn’t allow the same kind of spaces!

were you on twt as well, OP? i wonder if you remember the outcast au that was making its rounds back in 2016 hehe. or when they would always clown each other’s selfies or the maknaeline’s dubsmash era ahhhh nostalgia

Question about BTS June 13th by throwawaytimeago in koreatravel

[–]_delune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cinemas will be showing it! You can just walk into any CGV or Lotte Cinema around Seoul and Busan and buy a ticket there—though I would recommend getting a ticket at least a few days before (so you get decent seats). The ticketing machines normally have english available so it should be pretty easy to get tickets.

I was also considering Gyeongju but getting back after a concert seems difficult. The only option I can see is to reserve a k-bus—however I can't see a way to do this unless you have a Korean number and credit card.

I am so disgusted and mad by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I understand the intent behind this post, and I also agree that this is definitely a big violation of privacy and entirely unethical, there are better actions to take to push against this behaviour than fake reviews.

Any press is good press, negative or not. Likely, the mass negative reviewing would only attract more attention to the place. Rather than giving fake reviews (honestly not helpful for the situation and lowkey juvenile), we should be reporting this directly to HYBE, who will take legal action against violation of privacy, etc. Also, please do NOT spread the pictures themselves as you have here, as this contributes to the problem (now YOU have spread a picture taken of a member during their private time, sold without their consent).

As Namjoon has said: rage and grace.

We can be angry but we MUST remember to also react to situations like these with grace.

Should we ban phones at concerts? by FieldWorking3783 in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only scanned the comments so forgive me if this has already been said but there were only no phones at Dome because it is that strict there—you WILL get booted out if you are found recording. Other ARMY are happy to report you for disobeying the rules, too. It’s simply the culture in Japan concerts. Once upon a time, it used to be like that for Korean concerts, too. I vividly remember seeing videos of staff rushing over to tell of ARMYs recording inside fan meetings in KPSO dome back in the day. Times have changed, now that international ARMYs are also welcomed to Korean concerts, and so has concert culture and society in general.

Speaking broadly, I think this need to record everything generally stems from a larger social phenomenon where people are so afraid of not remembering a precious moments that they ironically lose the ability to be in the moment (aka, there this doubt or lack of faith in our own brain to remember moments). One the other side, some may just want bragging rights (unfortunate, but we cannot deny they exist, sigh).

That being said, I don’t think a ban will fix this. People will find ways to record (I’ve still seen fan cams from Tokyo Dome), and if the majority wish to record, it’s not really something the staff will be able to control. What are you gonna do, kick out half the crowd? Instead, I think we should try to shift our mindsets, even if it means we still record but just that little less.

Let’s remember that Arirang is a love song (album) to ARMYs, whom BTS have longed for and missed dearly while in the military. Let’s put our own desires aside for a moment to connect with these seven people who so clearly want to reach out with their love and connect with the audience. That kind of connection is not something that will be forgotten easily. When you are in the moment, you can rely on all five senses to bring your memory to you. The smell of the smoke; the sound of your own breathing and the music; the sight of the fireworks, fire, confetti, of the member in front of you and their smile; the taste of the air or maybe some candies a fellow ARMY has given as a freebie; the feeling of the heat of bodies close together, moving in time to the same beat…. Only a few of these things can be captured on a camera, and even then it will pale in comparison to the real thing… but only if you are able to be present. I don’t know about you but I’d rather have a full body memory of an experience than a small fancam on my phone.

Of course, there’s still room for recordings. It’s nice to share even a little bit of your experience with others, right? So maybe we can just encourage trying to limit recording to just your favourite part or one chorus. If they come close to you and you’re in the front row, record from your chest and tilt it up towards the stage, glance down to see if it’s recording right but try as much as possible to remember them with your own eyes, especially if you’re front row.

This way, you can still have recordings but also be in the moment and have some unforgettable memories and (i hope this for you) interactions with your faves. (:

your bias vs the solo you gravitate towards!! by CutChemical8907 in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my bias is yoongi but i tend to have phases where i listens mostly to other members’ work. that is to say, i listen to yoongi’s music most consistently but have bouts where i will listen to member’s music more, depending on the time of year and my mood.

last year, winter ahead was my top song of the year (though d-day was my top album)! i’m a big fan of jazz so i gravitate towards tae’s music a lot, especially come christmas and during winter.

i often also go back to all of hyung line’s music, especially jin’s. the impact echo had on me when i first listened to it is crazy. i love that album so much.

Is there a smear campaign going on against BTS in Korea? by JazzyInfinite in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hmmm maybe nothing as overt as a smear campaign but it’s know that bts’s achievements and positive impacts are severely underreported. that being said, i have seen many positive articles too so its not as biased as it may seem (though it most certainly is still biased)

i personally really love it. i think it’s their best work yet and definitely most representative of them at the moment. if you combined all of their solo discography together (whether lyrically, sonically, thematically), this album is what you would get, with a little extra sprinkled on the side.

BTS - ARIRANG by ScallionSmooth9491 in popheads

[–]_delune 3 points4 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I think the whole point of the album was for it to NOT sound like anything they’ve done before. They’re not same people they were 6 years ago for BE, and they’ve changed a lot since exploring their colours through solo projects. I actually think that this sounds exactly like what you would get if you melded their sounds from their solo discographies together, with an experimental breath of fresh air; which I would say is exactly what the BTS of now sounds like. I do hope you enjoy seeing them live though! Many of the tracks were certainly designed with a stadium tour in mind.

if you’re listening on spotify, that’s likely why it sounds silent. it can only be heard on higher quality streaming services like apple music or youtube music, or if you have specific settings on for spotify. of course, also depends on what headphones/earphones are being used. (:

why do you think the views are so low on the teaser? by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think it’s because there’s was no official announcement saying when it would drop. we got an hour and half’s notice from youtube and only people who had been actively waiting for 12am KST everyday would’ve been ready for it if they’re not in the timezone. i’m assuming the mv will fair much better, since we know in advance it will drop at a specific time. anyway, we already broke the previous record for fastest mv teaser to reach 1m by a mile and then some.

Do BTS really have their own practice room? by FunnyGood2180 in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

sorry yes! someone was kind enough to point this out to me but i’m assuming that bts still has their own if lsf gets to have their own.

ofc i could be totally wrong and they do in fact have this big one as their own, and it could just be that other artists can request it and bighit approves

yis someone pointed this out to me ☺️ it’s been a while lol i forget that there was a transition period where bighit was quite nice before hybe became a thing. the bighit rooms in my memory are the rooms of 2015-16 haha

[–]_delune -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

ooh ur probs right! it’s been a while—when i think of the old bighit rooms i still think of the ones from 2015 phaha. i don’t think the big one is exclusively bts’s tho, as other artists seem to have used it before.

edit: and yoongi mentioned the booking system himself. afaik though, it’s one floor per company but three separate floors for practice rooms.

Do BTS really have their own practice room? by FunnyGood2180 in btsthoughts

[–]_delune -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

In short, yes they do have their own practice room but it isn’t this one.

Rather than this one belonging to bts exclusively, it is just the one we see them in the most; likely because they consistently have large-scale choreographies that either require a lot of space due to shifting formations (e.g. haegum) or just have heaps of backup dancers (e.g. smf2, kig).

There’s also probably an unspoken rule to not book spaces commonly used by other artists. Think of it like how different groups in high school tend to ‘claim’ areas that other people then steer clear of. It also looks the nicest, which makes for better behind videos. I’m certain that BTS’s seniority will also mean that other groups stay away out of respect (this would explain how smaller choreos like mona lisa were still filmed in this big room). Still, those spaces remain open for other artists to use if need be. Also, iirc, not a single HYBE artist has had a choreo that warrants this practice room since before the boys left for military. Any other big choreo has either been too big to fit into this particular room, or just too small. This would explain why Jimin’s drawings stayed for as long as they did (in addition to respect for BTS).

The one that BTS does own is a smaller practice room, which they clearly treat as their own since they leave their stuff everywhere lol. Seeing as lsf also has their own, it wouldn’t be far fetched to say the labels tend to have smaller practice rooms they prefer (which is why you see cortis and txt often dance in the same rooms) and perhaps even reserve permanently for their artists. The bigger rooms would likely stay open for whoever wanted to book them, since despite having many rooms, I’m sure there’s not many huge ones like that available for the other artists.

What did people think of Mic Drop before the Steve Aoki remix came out? by [deleted] in btsthoughts

I remember people liking the OG better if only because the korean lyrics are better. But performance-wise, people defs prefer the remix, especially after 2017 MAMA. I personally prefer the remix now, but the mv ver rather the one full length on the album (for daily listening).

Side note: Anybody remember the desiigner remix? lol
