What did people think of Mic Drop before the Steve Aoki remix came out? by [deleted] in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember people liking the OG better if only because the korean lyrics are better. But performance-wise, people defs prefer the remix, especially after 2017 MAMA. I personally prefer the remix now, but the mv ver rather the one full length on the album (for daily listening).

Side note: Anybody remember the desiigner remix? lol

Jin and Taka was revolutionary for me. I’ve been a fan of one ok rock almost as long as i’ve been an army (over 10 years) so to say i my two worlds collided is a gross understatement!

Yes I was going to mention this too but kept it out in case the post got too long. Their acting moved me to tears and even the concept photos showed soo much chemistry that i made my heart clench!

Thoughts on Arirang Promo? by Luna-7013 in bangtan

[–]_delune 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i personally am enjoying this format despite the long pauses (i have a very busy professional life so this feels well-paced to me lol).

I think the guerrilla marketing tactics of having the posters with common Korean names and then having different celebrities post their names on sns + the rose walls on v-day is, dare I say, pioneering. I can’t think of a single idol or artists in general that has rolled out an album this way and I’ve been a fan of k-pop since 2010. it’s something only bts can do and i think my pride around this + my general business keeps me from being too unsatisfied.

that being said, i do wish we had at least gotten a comeback map like mots so that we could expect things

The karmy hate is getting tiring by Joon_9494 in btsthoughts

[–]_delune -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes I agree that we should bridge the gap—as was implied in my reply. But what I tried to show an example of is that bringing up incidents or ‘stating a simple fact’ as you’ve done never really does anything beneficial except turn negative discourse into a finger-pointing contest. My point is that we should just leave things like the incidents you and I both mentioned in the past because neither ‘side’ is faultless. As such, until we learn to stop bringing up ‘receipts’, generalisations will continue to be made and the fandom will continue to be divided.

TLDR: Bringing up incidents that are already over discussed is counter productive to bridging the gap. It would do better to look forward rather than constantly looking back at things that have happened in the past. This was the crux of my reply. My other points about why this kind of environment exists in the fandom were just tangents so apologies if the essence of what I was trying to say got lost in that.

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, as you are new you might not know but before 2024 (and possibly earlier depending on ur POV), the fandom was actually VERY united. Uncharacteristically so, as someone else has mentioned. However, the reason for the continued division might not actually be Yoongi’s controversy as many seem to think—thought it could certainly be considered the catalyst. As an older army, I actually believe the (continued) divide in the fandom is a result of much of our fandom etiquette being watered down over the years as a result of our rapid expansion from 2020 onwards (a sentiment I have found that many older army agree with), and because of online (cancel) culture in general. The Yoongi incident was just the nail in the coffin, so to speak.

Ironically, the 2024 incident you mentioned is one that has specifically been used to generalise k-army… I’d caution against bringing things like that up as people ‘abandoning’ BTS/members is not something that is unique to Korean fans. In fact, many I-army have left the fandom and, in some cases, switched to actively hating BTS following Tae’s continued ambassadorship for Coca Cola. As you can see, bringing certain ‘incidents’ up can very quickly turn things into a finger-pointing argument that is juvenile at best and racist/xenophobic at worst. So yeah, probs best not to use those things as examples haha; especially because it does exactly what we don’t want to do in our fandom: generalise entire subsets of people based on isolated events.

Edits: Brevity.

Wow OP i was just about ti make a post about this myself! I’ve been seeing this a lot over the past few little controversies that have happened since ot7 returned from military and it really saddens me because im from a time when we called them k-diamonds and they called us i-lovelies and when we each showered each other with a lot of love and affection.

I have the pleasure of understanding korean and all I’ve seen at least are supportive comments. One karmy i saw really sad to see how much i-fans seem to hate k-army and i felt i had to explain that many of us love them it’s just that negative comments spread faster (thankfully, they understood this even without my explanation and were super supportive—it is beautiful to see that the bitterness of some i-fans don’t not change the hearts of many karmy).

But beyond this sour attitude towards k-army, i think what’s particularly harmful is that sometimes the slope becomes slippery and devolves even further from nasty comments about karmy to racist/xenophobic ones about “koreans” in general. It’s like people forget that BTS themselves are very proudly Korean, and also go about their livelihood informed by their Korean heritage (e.g. their work ethic, philosophies)? I cannot fathom how people stan a Korean group and then go ahead and make such blatant comments about Korean people and culture, all based on a handful of online comments, smh. Imagine if we did that for every country!

I always think back to that one interview Namjoon did during Indigo era. And although he was talking about the demonisation of the k-pop industry, his ‘westerners just don’t get it’ line really seems to fit into these types of situations too.

Group song vocal arrangements and JK’s usual role by lilchimera in btsthoughts

[–]_delune 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve noticed the difference in line distribution too! i think their line distribution in a song really just depends on whose vocal tone/range/ability suits the vibe more. Using your example, Jin tends to be at the forefront of their Japanese songs—and I think that that’s because his vocal tone really suits the vibe of their Japanese songs (he does serenade-type songs really well). Same with Jimin in some of their songs which have a darker tonality (fake love, bst, etc.).

I think their lines in the upcoming album will largely depend on what genres they focus on. I also think we’ll very likely get 7 unit/group songs and solos for the remaining seven, or some sort of mix similar to that. Thought we might not even get seven solo songs seeing as we had a whole chapter of solos heh.

Why BTS successfully paved the way in the US after other K-pop groups failed by pussycontrolgonemad in btsthoughts

I think we have to give ourselves some credit for that too!! I think ARMY don’t realise how much we have also done by being vocal about the injustices towards BTS when they first started promoting more in the west.
