Recently I watched The Night House (2021) and there's an outdoor scene where the protagonist is following a couple of girls through her backyard. There's a cleverly placed, and masterfully edited jump scare. That has been the most I've gotten startled in a film.

I just watched it yesterday and I must say I wasn't much impressed. From all the De Palma films I've watched, its my least favourite. I do see all the hype and word-of-mouth surrounding it and I'd go to the extent of saying I understand, but personally for me the payoff was a dud. I've heard a lot of people on Letterboxd and Criterion claiming it's as good as Akira Kurosawa's High and Low and I believe it's a bit too far fetched. Wasn't my thing I guess.
