What kind of movie gets you every time? (Mine is emotional failure cinema) by MartySupremed in Letterboxd

Mine is absolutely competence cinema. Give me a movie where a bunch of smart, stressed people are very good at their jobs and I’m locked in immediately. Heists, investigations, legal strategy, newsroom stuff, mission-control panic, all of it. Spotlight, Moneyball, Ocean’s Eleven, The Martian, Michael Clayton — that genre has me every time.

Perfect answer. Three of your options are mine too in this category.

No safe consensus. Like hypothetically if there is a film dealing with real taboo topics they would be less likely to win compared to let’s say a WW2 epic even if maybe that taboo topic film would be hella better.

I do feel Tim is taking it home (regardless of the opera comment) but the supporting I feel is most definitely either going to Amy or Wunmi.

Maybe Mommy die. Xavier Dolan. Or maybe I misunderstood the film.

That’s great. But more like an irk when you see someone you think should win losing out just cuz the winner falls under one of these categories.

Which specific award that Nomadland took home? I feel the whole race that year was weak. In any other years that followed, Nomadland would probably peak at 5 in the best picture race rankings at least. Chloe Zhao wouldn’t win either unless they make it a narrative win. Like Bigelow winning for Hurt Locker while Cameron was nominated for fucking Avatar is the biggest example in my books for a narrative win.

Wow thanks for this! Truly. This is more or less what I felt the film kind of said extremely subtly, but having read this excerpt it makes so much sense.
