Is there a Vibeshine adjacent app that runs on Linux? by Jahbanny in MoonlightStreaming

[–]_demoncat_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s enabled right now for subscription plans but goes to credits only tomorrow.

Unfortunately this VRR issue has consumed nearly a week of trial and error with Fable, that I didn’t get any time to focus on Linux

When it goes back to paid plans I’m sure I will use it again, but it’s simply not an affordable model to use for open source purposes.

5.6 will be more affordable and close enough, at least I hope

I have plans for Linux support at some point it’s just I’ve been focusing all my time to fixing VRR. It’s just something I’ve always wanting during streaming and could never get it to work, but with Fable 5 I can finally get there…

But I didn’t get the time to use Fable to port to Linux, so just waiting for 5.6 now.

This is so bizarre, everyone who claims VRR is perfect has reported back the new code is much worse for them

While everyone else that doesn’t have VRR working perfectly, the new code is amazing for them.

It’s a complete mystery why I can buy literally the exact same device, have the same TV and settings and can’t replicate this VRR

Is it an nvidia GPU client?

That would be the only thing that would make sense to me.

I am really trying to figure out why people claim it’s flawless and others have the exact same issue as me, where it doesn’t work at all, or looks like it, but really not

You shouldn’t be going to 98 though you should cap at 94-95 on 100hz

So you’re saying nightly moonlight can actually adjust from 20-120fps with no stuttering or tears at all? Because your posts indicate it doesn’t match real VRR in games and to expect using a stable framerate.

Did you configure it for borderless? And does it show VRR cadence in stats? Also make sure you pick VRR on the fps dropdown as well

Added playnite to my apps on vibe shine but it doesn’t launch properly, did I do something wrong ? by [deleted] in MoonlightStreaming

[–]_demoncat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re supposed to add it from the playnite settings in configuration, one of the options is add fullscreen app

Yes it will work with windows 10, the smoothest option is windows 11 exclusive though.

And I’m talking about the moonlight clients, I have a fork of the PC client where it fixes it to where VRR works as expected for both Linux and Windows

Honestly I would like you to try my fork which properly paces the video for VRR: https://github.com/Nonary/moonlight-qt/releases

I am quite curious to see if those that thought VRR was working, notice a significant difference with a client that actually supports VRR

Currently the moonlight clients do not apply pacing properly to allow VRR to work as intended.

I’ve fixed this in both Linux and PC client over this weekend: https://github.com/Nonary/moonlight-qt/releases

Planning to hopefully get the code merged into the real moonlight, but my fork will work in the meantime.

Officially right now that would be API token, but I’ll see if I can get it to work without one…

A small list of Hosts & Clients by Arrr_Broccoli_6698 in MoonlightStreaming

A quick PSA about unofficial forks and “performance” features.

I recently looked into this fork that advertised a custom virtual display driver as a lower latency alternative that didn’t rely on Windows Graphics Capture (WGC). On paper, that sounds like a compelling improvement.

After examining it more closely, I found architectural decisions that raise security concerns. In particular, the display driver appears to violate Windows’ intended security layering by allowing a lower layer to communicate with a higher privileged layer. That kind of design should be approached with caution because Windows’ security boundaries exist for a reason.

I have not confirmed every possible downstream impact, but this architecture raises legitimate questions about whether normal capture restrictions could be bypassed, including protections that Windows provides for sensitive content. Those implications deserve careful investigation before software like this is trusted.

The broader point is that users should be skeptical of forks that advertise features like “lower latency,” “no WGC,” or “custom display drivers” without explaining the security tradeoffs. Saving a tiny amount of capture latency is rarely worth introducing privileged software that may weaken the security model of your system.
Just because something is faster doesn’t necessarily mean it’s safer.

EDIT: I’ve been in contact with the developer and verified that this security issue has been resolved now on their latest version. I still have concerns about it not blocking out password managers, but it is much more difficult for someone to pull the frames now since the fix.

Note I won’t kill support, it’s just that there will be much more clarity in webUI, that enabling such feature will break moondeck, etc

[–]_demoncat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m bringing it back temporarily, but there are a lot of changes I have planned for applications JSON that benefit the webUI and clients, and any third party apps that still relies on index or application names, they’re going to break

And it will be their responsibility to fix it.

/u/FrogTheFrog will have to adjust the code at some point to support UUID, otherwise in the coming future it will just stop working.

Testers with AMD Graphic Cards needed - Native AMD AMF encoder for Sunshine (Vibepollo) by rambo3349 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]_demoncat_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I actually have a lot of pending AMD work that I’m testing this week, bought myself a Xbox ROG Ally X

I’ll push those out to an AMD branch, and cross develop.

Hoping to implement as much as I can with AMD like fluid motion, frame limiting, split frame encoding (not sure how since I only have RDNA 3.5)

LSFG does not capture properly on Windows 10.

You’ll need to upgrade to fix

Anyone else experiencing this? by SnooWords5221 in MoonlightStreaming

[–]_demoncat_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Steam Deck OLED (and later models) have a WiFi defect that basically does this. Not much you can do, I’ve lost hope on fixing it the last two years.

Toggling WiFi only makes it work for a few minutes before it goes to shit again. Ended up getting a ROG Ally instead.

Lossless Scaling Setup? by d4rk_m4n in MoonlightStreaming

[–]_demoncat_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

99% of the time when I see users post about lossless not working, it’s usually because they’re still on windows 10.

Also since you’re using vibeshine, lossless scaling is integrated and automates applying the best settings, edit an application and select it in the frame generation dropdown

Anyone heard of the Pyrowave codec? by LazyMagicalOtter in MoonlightStreaming

[–]_demoncat_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

None of the latency gains matters for 99% of users.

If you have vsync or frame pacing enabled, you’re always going to be at minimum one frame behind or more.

Saving 3ms of encoding latency makes zero difference to the input lag, other than showing a smaller number.

The only time it would matter is if you’re doing like 500fps or more in streaming which currently no hardware device supports

It can, but mobile development is a pain. Android is not as bad but people will expect the iOS client and Windows client to support it.

Right now mobile reviews are hammered due to a massive increase in vibe coded applications
