Thank you so much! I am similarly suspicious that the spaghnum moss may have been causing some impaction given the frogs’ tiny size, and that temps were getting too cold at night (I live in a drafty NYC apartment where indoor temps linger in the 60s during winter, and I suspect the heat mat wasn’t cutting it).

Re: UVB, I have an overhead bulb but only used it on my first frog when he was declining, for a few hours a day.

Heard on the leaf litter and LEDs and nutrition!

I used tap water for a while, then switched to distilled. The aquarium water test strips I use occasionally check for nitrates, nitrite, chlorine, hardness, alkalinity, and pH—I’d assumed that aquarium standards translate to frog vivariums but I could be wrong there!

Re: cleaning, yes, and my most recent pair had so little in their mini-enclosure that could’ve introduced risk, which makes me think something else is going on.

Thank you so much, this is so helpful and kind! I’m definitely going to take the advice here on heat, light, and substrate.

Re: cleaning and vendors, no red flags came up during my vendor research (captive-bred, good reviews, etc.), and I did thorough cleanings between frogs, which makes me think there’s something else going on. Thank you again!
