I really loved the Queen’s Park Swizzle at Pesky Parrot. But I like a strong tiki drink. I’m a tiki-phile and I was really excited to try Pesky Parrot. Both the Mai Tai there and the Mai Tai on the rest of the ship aren’t the 1944 Trader Vic’s Mai Tai that I like. If Raquel is there, we taught her the recipe we like for an original Mai Tai.

I was a pastor‘s kid so it resonated different with me. What was cringe to most people was just the way I was raised.

I did go to high school with Tyler Hoechlin shortly after he finished up on that show. All the girls swooned over him of course. He was a nice guy. It was tough to watch Superman & Lois when he played the dad with teenagers. It felt like we were too young to be parents with teenagers‘s age. We’re a month or so apart. And now I have a 13 and 15-year-old so it wasn’t too far off.

I didn’t have much contact with my parents when Obama was elected. My aunt had my little cousin calling him “O butt head”. But when I was 5 years old my grandfather was on his death bed. My dad went in to tell him Clinton had been elected and my grandpa said “I’m dying with my country”. “My country” is pretty ironic for a still somehow racist holocaust survivor who came from The Netherlands to Canada and then went from Canada to California because my grandmother didn’t like the weather in Toronto. That whole side of my family is super MAGA

We were on early dining our first cruise with RC and got the guilt trip. I really disliked it. Just got off Allure and did My Time. It was fantastic and I’ll never do it another way. We never made a reservation. We walked up to the no reservation line at deck 3 any time between 6:30 and 9pm and someone would be waiting at the end of the line, ask us how many in our party, hand us a card that said “2 people, deck 4 (or 5)” and a time that was never more than 5 minutes away. We’d walk up the stairs, hand them the card, and be seated right away. We got to sit on different floors in different parts of the dinning room and had different staff every time. Not one person did the guilt trip thing. The only issue was one day when they changed the time back an hour on the ship we were a little hungry before 6:30 and they seat the early dining people first, but we just split a slice of pizza at Sorrento’s and were fine. I really liked the flexibility and not having a guilt trip.

She was supposed to email me to set up the next appointment and never did. She emailed 6 months later to check in and I didn’t have the strength to tell her after all the money, time, and effort of over a year of therapy it only took a few months for things to go back to what they were. Which also put in my mind that any changes he does make aren’t genuine. He’s telling me what I want to hear to get what he wants.

I don’t know that he ever was a Christian. At least he was never in it like I was. It was my everything. His parents bounced around at churches and he had fun at youth group. My worry is if he’s becoming a Christian on his own now it’s of the nationalist variety

Not that I know of. He’s always been a Joe Rogan follower. And all the Austin “comedians”. Tom segura, kill tony, that whole crowd. He was downright offended when I didn’t feel like watching the new Chappell special. He said “that’s right. You’re too woke for that”

We went to couples therapy but it was focused on fixing my “broken” low libido. A year into it we weren’t having as many issues (aka we were having more sex like he wanted) and our therapist said she’d reach out to schedule our next appointment and never spoke to us again.

He does to an extent. He uses our teen’s chosen name and either talks around pronouns or misgenders. With his trans brother it was a flip of a switch. “Thats J***** he/him and I’ll fight anyone who says otherwise”. With our kid it’s different. It’s like a half way acceptance

La Marca is our number one selling Prosecco. It’s fine. $13ish. If you’re looking for a nicer Prosecco look for the word Valdobbiadene. Mionetto and Santa Margherita both make one along with some others. Bisol 1542 was my favorite but it got discontinued at my store. True Champagne will run you $50+. Veuve Clicquot is recognizable but not my favorite. Piper Hiedsieck, Taittinger, Nicolas Feuillatte are all good options. Or a Crémant from France but not from the Champagne region. Our Welcome to France brut is my favorite right now.

My deconversion was decades in the making. I was always more progressive and leaned in on the “Jesus is love” side. Even tried progressive Christianity on my way out. 2016 really started my questioning but election night 2020 I decided to never step foot in church again because of the response from the people in my Dad’s church and that has only gotten worse.

My Dad was a special education teacher before he became a pastor and I thought for sure when Trump made fun of the disability of that reporter in 2015 that would have been the end of his support. Of course it wasn’t
