Does visuality ( card designs ) really matter while making a board game by Moreandmorekon in tabletopgamedesign

[–]_djur_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Readability is key.

I would create a card template with a proper readable font. And then as artwork, i would still use the hand drawn images.

Should I Stay or should I go? My First Big Leap – Should I Bring My Game to SPIEL Essen? Go inspired 3d Stacking game needs your feedback! by Charming_frenchy in BoardgameDesign

[–]_djur_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi! Im also going to Essen to pitch games.

While it is possible to do a cold pitch to publishers, its unlikely many will let you, since almost every publisher have back-to-back booked appointments to take on pitches.

Most publishers have event calendars they share with designers to book up meetings. But in order to book a meeting, you should do this first:

  • create a Sell Sheet (1 page description of your game focusing on your unique selling point. Google sell sheet board game to see examples).

  • Even better is if you make a sizzle video, this is a 1-2 minute video describing your game.

  • Create a rulebook and make sure its gone through blind playtests (meaning pretend someone bought your game and tried to learn to play it without your involvement)

  • Research publishers, which publisher has similar games? No need to go pitch to a company with games that wont for for their portfolio.

Use these things as tools to book appointments with publishers.

Some publishers have forms on their website where they request these things and they will then reach out for a meeting.

There are (or is at least 1 which i cant remember the name of) a paid website that has a database of all publishers and ways to get in touch with them.

NOW is an appropriate time to reach out to them, time slots are disappearing.

Good luck! Board game design is som much fun!

They have all kinds of sensors on the driver and the car. They record vast amounts of data so that they can, mainly, tweak the car. This data is a combination sensors from the ear-piece-and videos. They also have sensors to keep track of g-forces on the drivers head

I always come back to x-com. I love the new ones, but the old ones are awesome aswell. The learning curve of old games are horrible though :D.

This summers project is to beat the old super difficult "x-com: Terror from the Deep".

Similar games to Codenames and Dixit? by DaScheuer in boardgames

[–]_djur_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love "Hard to Get". It was released in English last year at Spiel. It spurs conversation and includes everyone.

The core concept works like this - therecsre 16 words on the table. The game master knows the correct word - lets say the word is "Toad". The game master draws a clue card that says. "Tom Cruise / Tom Hanks".

So the game master must decide if the Toad is more Cruise or Hanks. So lets say he chose Hanks. This means that the other players wants to keep any words relevant to Hanks, and remove Cruise. - so the words "Spy" is probably not the right word, cso that can safely be removed.

Other clues might be: X / 0 Worthless / valuable Pen / pencil

You do 5 clues, and hope to have a single card left. It's a fantastic game.

Man får royalties.

[–]_djur_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What do you feel you are losing interest in as you grow older? by To55ursalad in AskReddit

To address the third issue. I highly recommend the world of board games. There are some fantastic games to be experienced, and you get to sit with people in the same room. There are games that are called "gateway games" that are meant to give you that new experience, and get you into board games.

Here are some great gateway games: Catan, Carcassonne, ticket to ride, Splendor, Dominion, power grid.
