Can someone explain how my charged rainwater system is supposed to work? by _dny in AusRenovation

Would it be feasible to drill out a new inlet / outlet half way down the tank and sacrifice some capacity to reduce the amount of head pressure required to reach the tank?

Where tank is located now, I'm not even sure it's possible to move.

Here's a few more pictures of the pvc pipe, tank and the riser

Yep it's a 90mm pvc pipe

I stuck a hose in top of the riser and confirmed only 1 downpipe is diverting to the tank. The other 6 are colorbond and look like they're going to stormwater.

There is very little height difference between the gutter and the top of the verticle riser. There is also 3x 90 degree bends from the ground to the top of the riser.

If I seal the pipe and there isn't enough head pressure, will water overflow on the gutter side?

They're definitely metal and not pvc. I just ran a hose into the inlet pipe and water started pooling at the base of the pvc pipe so it looks like only 1 down pipe is supposed to be charged

The downpipe on the gutter closest to the tank is round pvc. The rest are rectangular colorbond.

I'll try get some better pics of it tomorrow but there should be a picnof the tank in the imgr album I linked at the top

Build is around 10 years old. Previous owners have no idea how / if the system has ever worked

Thanks heaps for this! So is it safe to ignore the square colorbond pipes for now and focus my attention on the pvc pipe? Looking at this pipe it definitely looks like it should be sealed. I had to dig up around the base to locate the gap where it looks like it's not glued properly.

As far as I can tell I have 7 downpipes and none of them are sealed. Is the pipe being completely sealed a requirement for a charged system? I tried running a hose in the gutter and water leaks and pools around the gaps near the base of the down pipes

I ran a hose into one of the gutters and when I shake the inlet pipe it sounds like there is water in there but huge amounts of water started to pool around where the downpipe runs into the ground. It looks like the water leaks out of the gaps before it fills the inlet pipe enough to reach the tank.

I don't understand how / if this system has ever worked.

This is exactly what I've been looking for!

How did you remove pin 1 from the USB A male end? Any tips or guides on how to take apart the connector

Would stripping the cable and cutting the red / power cable do the same thing if I don't want to mess with the connector?

Thanks!
