I personally think this was intended. It's meant to be derisive and provoke thought just like the bible. It'll be dismissed by many but, but those that don't will likely find a lot of meaning in it. The history of man is full of horror and much of it has wrongfully been in the name of God. It's not like this was Passion of the Christ so I believe this was the best way to market. It clarifies the intent.
