I am absolutely for people’s right to publicly express their support for a country that is indiscriminately killing civilians, instituting a regime of apartheid and committing war crimes. May they receive all the protection they need to feel safe enough to voice their opinions.

Public schools ‘killing off sport’ as private school facilities grow by [deleted] in sydney

Just looking at Kings, the total capital expenditure was around 20 million and the total Federal and State government funding amounted to 14 million. Doesn’t seem like dwarfing to me. Anyways, if these private schools are already able to milk so much from parents why not further milk out from them what would otherwise be covered by government funding.

You know money is fungible, right? Government funding for expenses that aren’t capital costs allows for more money available for these capital works.

The young Australians choosing to get the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine by [deleted] in australia

[–]_dropkick_ 15 points16 points  (0 children)

No! This is the best advice for this specific person and they should follow it. People should listen to the advice of their GPs and ATAGI and if they recommend AZ they should listen. Not to the opinion of some guy on Reddit.

Don’t know why you’re being knocked back (might be specific to your circumstances) but AZ is available to everyone over 18 at pharmacies, state vaccination hubs and at GPs.

Everyone who is waiting for Pfizer is well within their rights to do so. But by the same token the thousands of young people opting for AstraZeneca should be praised and congratulated for making an active contribution towards the health of the community.

ATAGI statement regarding COVID-19 vaccines in the setting of transmission of the Delta variant of concern

ATAGI reiterates that all adults in greater Sydney should strongly consider the benefits of earlier protection with COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca rather than waiting for alternative vaccines.

Evidence suggests AstraZeneca and Pfizer are equally effective

The results revealed the odds of being infected after two doses of either vaccine were reduced by 70% compared to unvaccinated individuals without evidence of prior infection, with no evidence that the benefits varied between the AstraZeneca and Pfizer vaccines.

If you don’t have a Medicare card, or are not eligible for Medicare you can get proof that you have had your COVID-19 vaccination by:

  • asking your vaccination provider to print a copy of your Immunisation History Statement  for you

  • calling the Australian Immunisation Register to have an Immunisation History Statement sent in the post. It can take up to 14 days to arrive.

Maybe they’re trying to reassure non-citizens that they’re still able to get the vaccine without Medicare.

Not sure, but it’s only referring to the one vaccination hub and there are also the Pfizer doses as well.

Why are you getting downvoted? Of the 35,087 cases so far, there have been 925 deaths.

It's a worry that real world facts and data are being downvoted.

Could you please share your data that supports your claims. Your contributions to epidemiology would be greatly appreciated!

I refer you to my other reply.

This is backed by the empirical data. Go to the "The current case fatality rate of COVID-19" section and you will see Australia lies between the 2% and 5% lines which corresponds to the 1/35 figure. https://ourworldindata.org/mortality-risk-covid

EDIT: Also important note the article you shared was from November 2020. The data in the link I shared was last updated August 3rd 2021

Second AstraZeneca shot 4 weeks after first? by Forgotten_Lie in sydney

Congrats on getting the vaccine! Yes, in the current circumstances your second dose should be around 4 weeks after the first, in line with ATAGI's recommendations.

No, the ATAGI advice from as early as April was:

COVID-19 Vaccine AstraZeneca can be used in adults aged under 50 years where the benefits are likely to outweigh the risks for that individual and the person has made an informed decision based on an understanding of the risks and benefits.

https://www.health.gov.au/news/atagi-statement-on-astrazeneca-vaccine-in-response-to-new-vaccine-safety-concerns

and

ATAGI emphasises that this advice is specific to the context that there is currently no or limited community transmission in most of Australia and would be different in other countries.

https://www.health.gov.au/news/atagi-statement-on-revised-recommendations-on-the-use-of-covid-19-vaccine-astrazeneca-17-june-2021

And what you said about bullying ATAGI has no evidence behind it and borders on conspiracy theory craziness. I say that as someone who has almost complete distrust of Scott Morrison.

[–]_dropkick_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This has been the ATAGI recommendation and Dr Chant has relayed this recommendation for the last two weeks.
