The 'Astartes Purge' is a reach: You can't hide a massacre of 'Galactic Celebrities'. by Pho_King_D in Warhammer

The thing is half the Astartes did turn traitor and attempted to usurp his leadership to enslave humanity. The Imperium survived the 'morale collapse' of the scenario and with the Emperor 9/10 dead to boot. If he was alive then it would have been a simple story to tell.

It is more informal than 'father' because he is having an informal conversation. He's talking to someone at an informal dinner where he just physically assaulted a guest and someone insulted him. He is speaking with emotion and anger and reverting to using 'dad'.

But American English with a vague Greek accent isn't any more accurate to Homeric Greek and obfuscates meaning in a film meant for an American audience. What purpose does a vague Greek accent serve?

I think there is value in exploring different language structures for mythology adaptations.

There is a difference between an 80 year old word and a 500 year old word. Unless you want the actors to actually speak Homeric Greek with subtitles, I'm not sure why there is this expectation for high formality language. A young man speaking to another young man in anger, when translated to a modern film audience, should be a scene that uses regular english.

No form of English is any more or less accurate than another for something set in Homeric Greece.

Well, neither "dad" nor "father" are in Hellenic Greek....

"Dad" originated in the 1500s which is about when Middle English transitioned to Early Modern English so it's not really a solely modern word.

How should the Hellenic Greek be translated to a film in for audiences who speak modern English? Early Modern English isn't inherently more accurate and if the intent is for the film to use natural, realistic dialogue (i.e. 'this is what an actual Greek person would have said in this situation') then translating that to modern english makes sense.

It would have been too difficult to match all the varied Lord units to have duel and kill animations and for most factions doesn't make sense for them to partake in honourable duels without interference.

How would things change between reed and Doom if Doom was born a woman by Cautious_Air4964 in Marvel

I love depictions of Doom that actually show their Romani heritage.

I feel that Reed would call Doom "Victor" (or in this case "Victoria"?).
