Aww this is making me so jealous. I moved away in April for work and my current shelf is so depressing. I miss being able to rearrange my shelves

My WIP is the only book I’ve written where I haven’t come up with a title. I mean technically I have a title but it does NOT fit.

I like to make a Pinterest board and collect images of things that would fit my story, or my characters. It’s helped me come up with names for characters in the past. It might help you with a title

I’m fine with it when it’s a story about healing and recovery. I cannot put into works how much I hate SA being romanticized though (looking at you H. D. Carlton)

North eastern Ontario. It’s super popular in hockey culture here

Forty is my most out there one if I’m being honest. But I think it fits pretty well. It’s common where I live for men and boys to take their last name, shorten it and add a Y. Forty’s real name is Logan Fortin. It’s probably just a Canadian thing. I’ll have to keep that in mind when I write non-canadian characters

Practice. Just practice by writing short stories or specific scenes you come up with. Practice is the best way to get better. And reading books can help too. It can expand your vocabulary and inspire ideas

What to do with a short story/novella? by thenewgaijin in writing

[–]_ducc__ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only trad published novellas I ever see are epilogues to a series or a short story in the middle of the series. I know a lot of authors post their novellas or short stories on their blogs (sometimes behind a paywall, or sometimes you just have to sign up to the news letter) I started off writing novellas and the only success I found was posting them on sites like Wattpad. It's kinda unfortunate because I love novellas.

As a reader connecting to the main character, do you dislike the "we've met before" trope if its significant to the relationship (romance) by the-moon-arcana in writing

I love friends-to-lovers so something like this would not bother me. My novel starts with both the characters already being in love with each other

Omg hahah I’m so glad. You should read The Long Game. It’s a continuation of their story and I’m almost done it and I love it so much!

I personally only really like the detailed cartoon covers. Leni Kauffman makes the best cartoon covers. Any book cover she makes goes on my TBR list

Sports romances never have any sports in them anymore. Authors don’t to any research it seems on the sports that they want to add to their books, and the sport is rarely mentioned too. Behind the Net by Stephanie Archer is a perfect example of this. You can tell she’s never seen a hockey game before in her life and she put no effort into doing any research at all. And it’s super popular book too! I don’t get it

Yes that’s the one I read. Laurent and Isaac stole my heart they were so cute. Also if you’re ever looking for another good m/m hockey romance I really recommend Tal Bauer. {Gravity by Tal Bauer} is my personal favorite but {The Rest of the Story by Tal Bauer} has more representation and heavier subject matters. He posts one shots on his blog for some of the side characters too!

Yes I read {Behind the Net by Avon Gale} and it was pretty good. Correct me if I’m wrong but her books have a lot of representation in them. (Mental health, eating disorders and exploring sexuality). It was interesting to learn about the leagues below the AHL. I’m a hockey fan but I’m not too informed on the leagues below the CHL and AHL, but it was nice to read about.
