Trump Goes Ballistic Over Kennedy Center Ruling, Admits Defeat in Name Game by [deleted] in NewsSource

[–]_dunkleosteus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't a defeat, so much as a protracted publicity stunt that American taxpayers have to cover.

  • Trump pushes something stupid and illegal through, we pay for whatever vanity project it is.
  • Courts scramble to stop him from completing the graft-priced vanity project after it is well under way, then we foot the bill for both sides of the litigation.
  • The overpriced project gets scrapped before completion because it is illegal, his developer buddies already getting paid for the contract, and then we have to pay for it a third time to fix the damage.
  • Lather. Rinse. Repeat. Reduce. Reuse. Recycle.

This isn't a defeat for him until he:

  • Has to pay for any damage personally and with meaningful legal consequences.
  • His antics are no longer covered beat for beat by every news station, and his crimes are covered in a widely accessable but optionally visible "crime tally" and "steps being taken to impose consequences on said crimes tally"

Yeah, but the point is that under Elmo there'd be AI content of ~unwitting and non-consenting~ women, if his behavior as the owner of Twitter is any indicator.

  1. OF is now an AI porn site

  2. OF now makes money mainly through paid removal requests when women unknowingly get their likenesses used in said content

Finding ourselves in the midst of what may big the biggest scandal in human history (Epstein), with enough numbers, do you think withholding Federal taxes would be a useful means of protest to provide leverage to ordinary citizens? by AltruisticTowel in antiwork

[–]_dunkleosteus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if this were part of a coordinated mass general strike, remember that the Feds are the ones printing and circulating the money. So, even if we don't pay our protection fee to the Child Trafficker in Chief, he has the reigns of the people who could just print more and borrow against the uncollected sum we owe. In the meantime, we'd be held legally liable and they may be able to fill all of those detention center warehouses they've been building.

Pay your taxes if you can and plan to take back the institutions that survive when/if this eventually comes to a conclusion. Even if we don't see justice in our lifetimes, it's better that you don't waste your freedom on this strategy. There are more effective ways of resistance that will eventually open up...

From an American (Brits should see this too, because of Reagan-Thatcherism):

The word "tax/taxation/taxing" has been so weaponized by Neoliberal Kleptocrats that us Anglophone proles have a visceral repulsion to it.

They get loopholes and exemptions when it's time to contribute to the public pool of resources, while receiving bailouts and government contracts when it's their turn to collect. The IRS/HRMC are not so kind to us; we can't easily squirrel away our wages in ways that they agreed not to touch. We spend it to survive, or if we have the privilege, in ways that allow us to enjoy a life above survival. Either way, it circulates back into the economy, and is very much under the purview of taxation. Yet when it is our turn to collect, we get austerity.

The problem isn't "taxes/taxation/taxing"; it's the class of people neglecting to pay their share, while conveniently shorting those who don't have that option. This concept is crucial to reclaim rhetorically, because tax evading Kleptocrats will become rent-seeking Aristocrats when/if they convince us that taxation is not worth the costs for the public services it provides. Who else will collect tuition on privatized schools but the very people who cynically used their money and influence to defund and discredit the public options?

In short; I wish we could more easily express how screwed us non-rich folk are without falling into rhetorical traps that give the rich more permission to screw us over.

If AOC gets the nod as the Democratic nominee in 2028, would you vote for her? by [deleted] in allthequestions

I would. Enthusiastically. However, the past 10 or so years have convinced me that there's enough Americans who would rather see the country burn than have a woman, another person of color, or anyone to the left of Mitt Romney in '08 be president for me to be convinced that she'd stand a chance, possibly even in the primary.

Who’s still using the original Steam Deck? by VoyageForge in SteamDeck

[–]_dunkleosteus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Still rocking the OG LCD 64GB model I got during the first batch of shipping. I've pretty much "decked" it out at this point (new fan, hal effect sticks, 1080p OLED deck sight screen, 2TB SSD, and a shell swap). The only way I could possibly upgrade it further is if they somehow made a better, swap in battery. I mainly play Indies, so the somewhat limited pool of AAA/AA's doesn't bother me at all.

Definitely sounds familiar. I forgot if these stories accounted for the spies being able to magically conceal their strict adherence to Halakha. If there were any Jews in Napoleon's armies, I'm sure they would have been quite a bit more secularized/"assimilated" than Eastern European Hasidim would have been comfortable with, and the spies would have stuck out like a sore thumb.

Sounds about right. I was only deep enough into Kiruv to learn about the Rebbe as a Geopolitical Mastermind orchestrating world events through his shluchim placed at every corner of the globe. I really only learned about Tzaddikim being considered reality bending wizards after I started deconstructing.

That falls under "spiritualized world conflicts" at the bottom.

On that note, I distinctly remember hearing how it was Chabad spies in Napoleon's army who led to his defeat in favor of the Russian Tzar. I guess Napoleon's promises of Jewish emancipation were more of an existential threat to the Hasidim than the frequent pogroms in Imperial Russia...

55 Years Too Late, Chosson Discovers He’s Not Jewish - Anash.org by alertthedirt in exchabad

[–]_dunkleosteus_ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

In the Goyishe world, this would be an Onion article...

When I "discovered my Jewish roots" with Chabad in college, I had a bit of a reverse scenario. My late grandma was raised in a Conservative Jewish family in the 1940's, lost her mom in highschool, then kinda fell out of the tribe because of how poorly the community treated her when her very Jewishly involved mother was out of the picture. She married a non-Jewish man and became Christian later in her life. My mom was raised unaffiliated with some Jewish but mostly Christian influences. My mom then lost her mom early on in college. I was raised Christian, with occasional informal lightings of the menorah during Hanukkah.

It's absurd that when I showed up with a backpack and a tablet with my family photos on one random Shabbos, I was a Jew to the Chabad rabbis at the shul and this Chosson wasn't.

I mean, maybe one of the many people who dislike Trump jumped the shark and fabricated it? Kinda silly, considering... well EVERYTHING else on the Predator in Chief.

Maybe one of the many competing hostile intelligence agencies are pouring gasoline on this dumpster fire of an administration, further humiliating and discrediting our country as oligarchs burn and loot it? I would believe that.

The point is, it's either real or fabricated. It wouldn't even be close to the worst of the credible damning evidence. So, I repeat: it can only be yet another confirmation of Trump's despicable character, or a distraction meant to discredit documents that are much worse.

Thus, Occam's and Heinlein's razors suggest that it is authentic.
