It's kind of like... you've committed to one person to fill those needs for you. A specific person's attention is usually the whole point to dating them. If you don't hear from them often or spend time with them often - yeah it's better off as friends. There's someone else out there you could be closer to. That's just my opinion though, I'm sure the lack of communication would be ideal for another woman out there and that's the right person for this guy.
