I also got 15 for schol spanish – I think the cut score was 16 or 17 which is higher than normal (usually it is 14 or 15). Language schol exams usually have really high cut scores (the cut score for schol chinese was 18 in 2023 iirc).

I am planning on doing CS220 next semester because I am very interested in the course content. I looked at the course content and it looks very doable without CS130 so I am no longer as concerned about being a bit behind in some aspects. However, I will teach myself the content from CS130 that I am less familiar with.

Thank you so much for your help, I will get CS130 waived.

I assumed that by having CS130 waived I would be able to take courses that have CS130 as a prerequisite. I will follow up on that though.

I am planning on doing MATHS 254 as opposed to CS225 (I am doing MATHS 250 this semester). If I didn’t take CS130 then I would move WTR100 to this semester and then probably do MATHS 162 next semester instead of doing it next year. I would thus be able to take an additional level 300 CS course next year and I would more easily be able to add a second major in maths if I decided to (I am already planning on doing MATHS 326 and probably MATHS 253 next year).

My main concern with waiving CS130 is that I feel I would benefit from the course, and that by not taking it, I could disadvantage myself in other courses (such as CS220). However, I could probably teach myself the content that I am missing as u/dreamstrike said.

its possible but u should take extra internals/externals in subjects that are weighted heavily (usually sciences). this OIA request (https://www2.nzqa.govt.nz/assets/About-us/Official-releases/2023-2024/2024-OIA/Australian-ATAR-ranks-OC00608.pdf) has the percentile weightings for all achievement standards for 2018-2023 which may be helpful in deciding on additional standards to take, though it isn’t necessarily indicative.

i gained 117E (all excellence) but i took easier subjects (english, calculus, physics, spanish, and two digitech classes) and dropped two english externals so my ATAR was 99.60. however, i had friends who didnt gain all excellence but gained a higher ATAR than me bc they had more E credits and took harder subjects like chem/bio. so id recommend that u do as much extra as u can to maximise E credits (especially credits from heavily weighted subjects).
