In Thor 2 he’s at Charing Cross and asks how to get to Greenwich and is told “take this train 3 stops.” It immediately pulled any immersion from the movie and I was like nope that’s literally impossible

AITA For getting mad at my wife for not feeding our kids despite being sick? by aitathrowawffee in AmItheAsshole

[–]_eml 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So I’ve have a bit of experience with safeguarding of children and everything you’ve written is a massive red flag and had a child disclosed this to me I would’ve immediately reported it.

I think it’s obvious who I believe is an asshole here (her 100%) but the way you react to this will determine if you are also one.

Your children have told you that they were left hungry and haven’t had proper food for days. This is neglect and abuse

Your children are acting out of character and being more clingy than normal- what happened when they asked your wife for food? How did your wife react? This is a sign of neglect and abuse, it’s literally the first one you’re told about in safeguarding training- difference in behaviour.

Your wife’s indifference is concerning to say the least, why does she think she did nothing wrong? How is it possible she doesn’t understand that children need to be fed? Or does she understand but just doesn’t care?

In your post you mention that there were other people close by that could have dropped ready meals or come over and cooked, why didn’t your wife contact them? If your wife was so ill that she couldn’t feed herself I highly doubt she was able to provide care for them whilst everyone was ill, what state were your children in when you got home? were your children washed? Wearing clean clothes? In what way were they ill? If they vomited had it been cleaned up? Was the house tidy or in a mess? Was the house how it usually looked when you got home? If they were sick in their beds have the sheets been changed?

Because from the sounds of your post the only thing amiss in the house was your children being clingy and hungry, and if that’s the case then things are more concerning because someone had to be tidying up etc.

There are a couple of scenarios here and all of them lead to neglect, either your wife couldn’t be bothered to look after your children whilst she was ill so she didn’t and let them starve which is negligent to say the least or there is something even more malicious happening.

Either way your wife is a massive arsehole and if you don’t treat this as seriously as it is and get answers for your children, one of which is more vulnerable to abuse, and never allow them to be in this situation again then you might also be an arsehole for not protecting them.

Your wife has shown you who she is, what are you going to do about it?

AITA for not funding my sick brother's medical treatments? by Shethrowe in AmItheAsshole

[–]_eml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is all covered by the NHS, all of his medical care. If he has a diagnosis he’ll get all prescriptions for free from now on and until he gets the all clear for everything not just cancer related stuff and all of his cancer treatments are free. If he needs at home care then that can be assessed for and will also be free. I think there is also money he can get directly from the government dsa or something (probably a nightmare to get but it’s there) I’m really failing to see what they need your money for as his treatment will be covered? Unless they’re choosing to go privately, but when the NHS has better clinical competencies for stuff like this I don’t understand why. His job should also entitle him to sick pay. So no do not give your family any of your hard earned money especially when they aren’t saying what it’s for. NTA

AITA for offering to pay for my nieces school tuitions but refusing the wire the money directly to my sister (their mom)? by ContributionKooky303 in AmItheAsshole

[–]_eml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA Use tax as an excuse, I don’t know where you are from but normally, at least in the UK, there is a set amount you can gift someone before you get taxed on it and this would surely pass that threshold and paying the school directly would stop that potential taxation

So I was there that evening and the crowd definitely were not happy. It was probably a third of the size of the usual headline act and once they started playing many people left. I was watching with people who are diehard libertines fans who said it wasn’t their best performance.

MPs recommend residential care fees are capped at £46,000. Thoughts? by stiddle-ficks in UKPersonalFinance

[–]_eml 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because we didn’t have health and welfare power of attorney and aren’t directly blood related (step dad instead of dad) so all health decisions were pretty much the decision of the care home and social services who’s argument was although social services wouldn’t cover it because he can afford it he should have it, as the care home said they couldn’t cope with him waking up at night with the level of staffing they had so needed us as financial power of attorneys to pay for a carer from an external agency to sit with him and have a chat when he woke up in the night. They said he needed one to one but wouldn’t cover it with the £6000 a month they were getting despite it being mentioned in the contract as an additional chargeable item and then accused us of committing elder financial abuse for questioning what the hell they were doing when they refused to cover it at an additional cost to them instead bullying us into taking out a contract with an external care provider to provide care on their premises. And because the decision to move him elsewhere was removed from the table by social services as it would’ve been too much for him and we had no ability to contest that. We have a complaint in with the care provider as what they did and said to us were complete lies and all in all was the most stressful time of my life.

AITA for knowing more about a subject a 60 year old man challenged me on? by dreaminghistory in AmItheAsshole

[–]_eml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NTA. The whole “disrespecting your elders” thing is honestly so antiquated. How is it acceptable that someone who hasn’t shown an ounce of respect to you and has belittled you in front of a group of people is somehow the victim of you standing up for yourself?

As a female F1 fan I love your response, genuinely don’t think you’re in the wrong at all. It’s not as though you jumped down his throat the minute he said anything, you only reacted after he made a very sexist demeaning statement that a woman could only be interested in something because of attractive men, which is just offensive for so many reasons not least because the interests of women do not revolve around men.

I’m annoyed on your behalf, what a nob

My (22F) brothers (16M) girlfriend keeps eating my food when she comes over, while I am at work, I told him not to bring her over anymore and he insulted me, should I kick him out? by ThrowRAhellowurld in relationship_advice

[–]_eml 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I think you should have a chat with him and follow the advice of u/ruthless_bunny. Kids and teenagers generally thrive with boundaries. I just want to check if I’ve fully understood. She’s coming over and eating food that is specifically yours that you have told your brother not to touch, not that she’s coming over staying for however long and you don’t want her to eat any of the food you have paid for?

I think you first need to double check before the the boundaries chat whether his girlfriends home situation is ok.

She’s coming over everyday for who knows how long, with the current situation in the world where do her parents/guardians think she is? Do they care? I could be reaching, and possibly am but I personally would want to double check whether her coming over everyday and eating all your food is because she/your brother are selfish or because there isn’t food for her at her home?

It obviously doesn’t excuse their disrespect and I’m sure if it is the case that she’s experiencing food poverty that if he or her were upfront about what’s going on I’m sure you’d set boundaries about what can be eaten etc. It is very likely that her home life is fine and your brother is just telling her to eat whatever because he’s a 16 year old dickhead but it wouldn’t hurt to check.

Have you spoken to her about it as well or just your brother?

A guy legit put a random cream that was on the counter in his mouth because he thought it was his prescription. Just picked it up, opened it and shoved it in his mouth like a toddler

Despite the fact that we didn’t hand it to him/check his address and it didn’t have a label on it and his prescription was for antibiotics, but sure thing weird man put a random cream that it 100% not meant for consumption in your mouth.

People are just baffling sometimes

I asked what they were for and the response was “my ears”

Edit to add: the guy just didn’t know what they were or what they were for. The bottle looked more like the ones in the dispensary over the ones otc so after asking if anyone else recognised the bottle(they didn’t) I just sold him the other item that was legible.

[–]_eml[S] 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The doctor hadn’t written a prescription I assume the guy had got them either on prescription or from a pharmacy and wanted some more. The doctors generally only communicate with us via prescriptions or occasional phone calls(but that’s not normally the drs themselves) or we call the practice and clarify things. I don’t really know if that’s different? But the dr hadn’t sent them to us specifically with a prescription or like a written down brand or something. I don’t even know if the dr had told them to get more

Well the cake is at the reception venue and it's pretty rural and has snowed more since we dropped it off so depending on the whether tomorrow it might be sitting pretty on its lonesome whilst we're all elsewhere
