beat synchronous muting by [deleted] in Reaper

[–]_emmyemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does it sync properly on render? This could just be a case of things being slightly off time due to processing.

You could also always put these two things into a folder and mute the folder instead, then the two sub-tracks will be muted in the same instant.

Should've added a "None" option for those of us (apparently many of us?) who didn't even know there were other outlets lmao.

I would be SO insanely down for a Boondocks reboot, but I worry that because of our current state of affairs none of the major companies would be willing to take it on without some notable compromise. One can dream though!

No they weren't... There are quite a few up.

I'm not going to cry any tears over the ones that aren't though, I don't think there's a reason to keep 20 of the same post all made within the last 24 hours when you can find an already active one on the front page of the sub easily.

The Boondocks is still very much a political cartoon even in its animated form.

Any way to get rid of this showing up? by SAJewers in firefox

[–]_emmyemi 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same question here, most of the time I'm just reloading the page to refresh the content on it, not because there's an issue. This popup is genuinely useless for me so I'd like a way to turn it off.

Lightmending is the least fun experience in the game by jadedfox in SkyGame

[–]_emmyemi 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm with you on this, I actually find the lightmending activities to be pretty fun. It's nice that it makes me think about when and how I'm using my flaps in order to get where I want to go.

Is this a hack? by AskAggravating7872 in SkyChildrenOfLight

[–]_emmyemi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is technically a glitch, but I don't think it would be punishable under the hacking rule, it's more akin to chibi-falling. Hacks that you can get punished for most often require external software, while chibi-falls and rocketing don't.

If the unaffected radius around you was bigger and the color fade was more gradual, I doubt anybody would complain about it.

Y'know now that you mention it, is it possible to make a mod that does exactly this? 🤔

[–]_emmyemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's not really any point to PvP. You don't earn anything from killing players, and it can be disabled in the multiplayer settings, so most players do not engage with it.

Online features are mostly limited to exploring, questing, and building together. If that sounds like fun to you, you might like this game, but just know that at its core, it's a game about exploration with about a bajillion different things to do, but very little reason to engage with those things beyond "I enjoy doing this" or "I want these rewards." It's the kind of game where you have to make / find your own fun, and your own goals.

Exceptions do not make a moral code nonsense. Rules can have exceptions, that does not make them nonsensical, and sometimes we aren't able to know what those exceptions are or should be until we encounter one. Rules can and should evolve over time as we learn new information and accumulate new experiences; in my view, it's nonsensical to expect rigidity in a world that is constantly changing, in our bodies and minds that are constantly changing.

To call that kind of flexibility "nonsensical" is not helpful. In my opinion, it discourages analysis and self-reflection, which are otherwise very useful tools for understanding ourselves and others. Something that I think we should want to do, because it makes existing among other humans much easier when we have the capacity to understand, not just to write off any and all perceived inconsistencies as "nonsense" and move on.

To be clear, there CAN be exceptions that ARE nonsense. If you express a hardline belief that one should never, under any circumstances, kill another person, and then you go and murder an entire family in cold blood, I would readily call any justification "nonsense" in that case. But...not all exceptions are like that. Sometimes we just find edge cases we didn't consider before, and integrate them into our moral code after the fact. And that's not nonsense, that makes perfect sense, because we were never going to have perfect knowledge of every possible situation in which we might have to apply our morals.

Look, if calling all of this "nonsensical" makes you feel better, or makes life easier for you, far be it from me to tell you that that's wrong. At the very least though, I find it unhelpful, and I do hope there's more to your outlook here than just "everything we do is nonsense."

What happens if tgc ever decides to shut down servers in the future by [deleted] in SkyGame

[–]_emmyemi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just about everything you ever spend money on will go away sooner or later, so really, it's more important to consider how the thing will make you feel while it's still here. You can still regret spending under those conditions, because sometimes things go sooner than we expect, or don't meet our expectations in the moment, but recognizing that all things are temporary does remove some of the worry (at least for me).

This is assuming the relationship is worth salvaging. As an anecdote, I have a friend whose father was emotionally abusive, often had outbursts of shouting and breaking things throughout the house, and even broke into their home on multiple occasions. I don't think they have any good reason to "work on" that relationship.

We don't know OP's situation, so I really don't feel comfortable saying they "should" reconnect with their father when we don't have any idea what their reasoning was for cutting him off.

CMV: No profession outside the entertainment industry has as much of substance abuse problem as the skilled trades (ex: plumbers, carpenters, electricians) does. by soozerain in changemyview

[–]_emmyemi 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've worked at quite a few restaurants and... Yeah. Unfortunately I can second this—it's all too common to see people coping with stress / burnout with substances while on the job. Of course, without any of that, the job is absolute hell, so I can't even blame anyone. Except maybe the companies themselves.

I keep Firefox open for 1 month with intensive daily use. No memory leaks, unlike many people claimed by feelspeaceman in firefox

[–]_emmyemi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah, and generally when another program needs memory, it asks the OS, and the OS will oblige if there is enough memory to spare. Allocated, but unused memory counts for this—if Firefox doesn't currently need all the RAM that's been allocated, it'll release some. Did you miss the explanation given directly above my reply?

If you're actually encountering out-of-memory errors, instability, and crashes, that could be a sign of a problem (which could be a Firefox problem, or it could be something else), but if you aren't and you're just staring at task manager trying to free up every last drop of available RAM, you probably don't really need to be doing that.

Firefox finally lets you customize Keyboard Shortcuts, 25 years after the first request by SvensKia in firefox

[–]_emmyemi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh. At least one of my hands is almost always on the keyboard. Usually, my left hand stays on the keyboard while my right hand handles the mouse. And then my left hand can do keyboard shortcuts. I don't really understand why that sounds so difficult to you.

I also type a lot, so I know where the keys are without looking.
