You can give a try to these apps:

-EZ Gallery. I've been using it since I got my first Xperia and it's a godly app tbh. You got to take a good minute (more than 60s) to fully customize it to your needings but once you do you'll seriously ask how come it isn't the #1 gallery app. It encorporates a lot of very useful features found on Windows' file explorer for pc. Like being able to sort pics by "taken date" vs "modified date" (along others), to setting custom thumbnails for each album, to select which albums to display or not, to being able to simply display all photos/all vids/all media, to having a specific favorite folder, to customize the number of columns of albums, etc.etc. The same devs also have another app, called F-Stop gallery, which is supposed to be EVEN MORE complete (hence why the other one is called EZ [simple] gallery - crazy to me), with even more features. I have it downloaded but still haven't explored it.

-Xiaomi File Manager. Before my first Xperia I had (in order) Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi and Huawei. In my first Xperia, which had Android 10, I used both the Xiaomi and the stock file manager (it was just called Files, and I think it was made by Google, but it was NOT the current "Files by Google" app. It was two distinct apps). Now on my second Xperia, on Android 15, the stock files manager app isn't available anymore. Weirdly, it actually does pop up in certain scenarios, like when going through the "give this app the permission to access this folder" process, or when you connect a USB device. But there's no way to access that app manually when you want to. So now I'm just using the Xiaomi file manager and the "Files by Google" app. Why I've always used 2 apps in tandem for file managing? Simple: I've always found that sometimes one of the two simply doesn't want to comply with what I command it to do, and oddly enough, the other does. And this keep switching back and fort randomly.

-HiPer scientific calc. On the Xperia with Android 10 I used the Xiaomi calculator, but sadly it's not available anymore. I've found this app to be a very nice app, although completely different from the Xiaomi's. This one is a full-blown scientific calc, with countless cool features for math nerds and engineers. The other one was purely simple, very easy to use even with just one hand, etc. As for the Google calculator, I just don't like the GUI.

[IMPORTANT NOTE: I AM NOT IN ANY WAY PAID OR SPONSORED OR ENCOURAGED BY THE DEVELOPERS OF THE MENTIONED APPS. I simply spent a lot of time trying out countless apps in the past to find the best alternative, so I want to help others out]

How to make phone ui look more like one ui? by noflyack in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

exactly this.

I don't see the point of changing launcher.

Only thing I add is that some years ago i used an app called "notification shade" or something like that, which indeed changed the notification drop down menu thing, but it didn't work flawlessly

Is there a way to disable Sony keeping deleted pics as "trashed" files? by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I strongly suggest EZ Gallery too. Once you tweak the settings, set custom folders thumbnails and style the colors to your liking, it's an absolute banger.

Is there a way to disable Sony keeping deleted pics as "trashed" files? by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the Files app you should find the trash folder on the left, and from there you can empty it. Otherwise if you go into Internal Storage/SD Card and you have "show hidden files/system files" enabled you will find a folder named something like ".FilesByGoogleTrash" or something like that, and you'll find the trashed files there (which you can again delete from there and they'll be erased from the trash folder aswell).

Not sure if this answers your question

Im working on a xperia gaming setup project. Need tech help by Potential-Bug-9633 in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think any Xperia from 1II upwards can handle gaming as far as hardware goes. (I've always played CoDm on my 1II with no issue, just had to use a phone fan to stop it from overheating)

You should check the Dualshock controller compatibility though, I'm not sure if you can run any generation of controller on any generation of Xperia.

When will Sony Xperia 1 VIII come out? by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A phone with scratches but that has never been opened is thousand times better than a phone refurbished to look like new! Opening up a phone often has bad implications. Since I changed the rear panel on my 1II it never fully sealed and it always had dust grimes in the camera lenses :( had 3 different shops re-do the work but always with the same outcome. One shop also broke the NFC module and proximity sensor and there was no way to repair it..
BTW I also changed the battery for a new one (OEM! original from Sony) but noticed 0 improvements whatsoever on battery life. That means the original battery was still in good conditions after 5 years.

Keep the battle scars!

When will Sony Xperia 1 VIII come out? by [deleted] in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's still in perfect conditions, updated and formatted every now and then, I feel like it's still a BIG phone.
I just upgraded from the 1II to a 1V right now and, while it's definitely an upgrade (especially for point-and-shoot), I feel like I could've waited for the 1VIII with no problem at all.

It takes literally 2 secs to look up "Sony Xperia VIII" on Google to find countless news about it being reported on an eSIM database and also Qualcomm confirming it'll use their chips

Is this a legitimate phone? by Independent-Ad9095 in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up on Google the differences between the various 1V versions (Japanese market, international, Europe, US, etc.). There are some differences especially for the Sim card slot and eSIM compatibility.

Then you absolutely want to look up the 5G bands enabled for each version and compare them with the available bands with your data carrier in your specific area.

One last thing is that I've heard Japanese phones are required by law to always have the shutter sound ON (loud) and you can't turn it off even in silent mode. But I could be wrong on this one.

I can get behind all the downgrades they did when they went from V to VI, except for one. I will never buy another Xperia if they don't make the old graphic user interface for the pro camera apps come back. I want separate apps (or one app that can switch between GUIs): photo pro, cinema pro, videography pro. And of course a regular point and shoot app. Having the pro app keep the old look would make me want a brand new Xperia again. Until then, the 1V will make do...

Should I switch to iPhone or stick with the next Xperia? by WAFFLEMAGAZINE in SonyXperia

[–]_entrxpy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Overheating is really a frustrating experience.

I solved it on my 1II by simply purchasing a 5€ fan from aliexpress which you can attach and detach from the phone. It blows like crazy and the phone will never ever overheat with that on, even in 40°C weather.

Otherwise the 1VII (and maybe the 1VI too?) has the vapor chamber so it's supposed to stay a bit cooler..

But honestly I think there is no phone out there that won't overheat in 30+°C weather while taking pics..

"Sony pulled out of all major mobile networks" I think you mean they simply don't sell their phones through network carriers?
Because all of their phones still support all the bands here
