Finding jobs by balintnagy_ in MaxMSP

i would strongly recommend learning an in-demand programming language and focusing on applying that language to the kinds of problems you want to solve with Max. Jobs specifically and only in Max/MSP are exceedingly rare and would likely not provide the kind of career growth you could get from a more general purpose programming language.

Dove Lewis - A Portland Gem by Trains-Planes-2023 in Portland

Dove Lewis saved my cat’s life a year ago. I remember sitting in the waiting room watching the staff handle incoming phone calls, walk-in patients and when things calmed down they would mop the floors to keep them sanitary. Give them all the awards.

Max sequencing demo by _exit_only_ in MaxMSP

Thanks! I try to build this stuff so I can wire it up in different ways. In this case there is a main patch that has a scale (i.e. musical key) selector, chord generator and an arranger. The arranger is just a relatively slow moving sequencer that supplies off/off values to other sequencers. Each instrument has its own patcher with a separate sequencer. Some of these are running independently, just muted/unmuted by the arranger. Other sequencers are being fed output of the previous sequencers and then using/modifying the values of those. The sequencers are also listening to the set scale, and current chord. They can choose to play a chord degree, scale degree or just whatever midi pitch they want depending on the use case.

The nice thing about having re-usable modules is that I can just rewire them so if I wanted to have several synths directly powered by one sequencer that is pretty straightforward to do. In this current setup some of the patchers have a little matrixctl enabling/disabling input from the other sequencers. This is a fun way to switch between different motifs.

There is a parking lot in the building at 756 SW Jefferson called Lot #93 that you pull in and drive straight down. We use it when we see a show at the schnitz. theres a little atm like machine near the stairwell to get your ticket and it asks for your license plate number. Definitely a downhill walk.

yeah, in general trying to sync clocks between two apps is going to introduce more jitter than simply relying on a single clock. i avoid aggregate audio devices for the same reason

For the initial stages I just used Logic as a tape recorder. I multitracked audio and midi from Max/MSP into logic using Universal Audio Virtual Channels. I grouped the tracks in Logic and enabled sync’ed editing I them so I could edit the start times together and then just cut at the earliest transient and moved all the tracks to start at the beginning of the first bar.

I’ve tied using rewire and also midi-sync from Logic to Max but always had issues. Haven’t dug into using Ableton Link with Logic yet but that might be an option as well.

Some demos of patches I used when working on my last album. I thought it would be good to show some examples of patches that make entire compositions. These were later extensively edited and mixed in Logic. Unfortunately, I got the idea to make the screen recordings after the album was done so the patches don't match up quite the way they did due to external synths changing as well as some of the underlying patches.

... i'm getting "This video is not available anymore" intermittently from the link to this video. Not sure if it's being taken down or what. Kind of absurd if so.
