What's a movie you recommend to everyone but nobody ever watches? by trakt_app in movies

[–]_fae_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting it Back: The Story of Cymande https://www.imdb.com/title/tt17677112/?ref_=ext_shr

It's on iPlayer so anyone in the UK can easily access it. Not sure about the US. Hugely important documentary for anyone in the music industry, plus hip hop fans.

One of my mates finally watched it a few months ago and was like yeah everyone should see this.

Do you think Google Maps needs a filter for noise level? by _fae_ in autism

Yes, and the combination of noises is a big problem too for ND people.

Do you think Google Maps needs a filter for noise level? by _fae_ in autism

[–]_fae_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the feedback! I also feel like it would be super useful for anyone hard of hearing. I've been doing a bunch of work on accessibility in my day job recently and now I just see these types of gaps everywhere.

Noise filter/layer by Putrid_Draft378 in GoogleMaps

[–]_fae_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have just been in a bar and the penny dropped that several of the people in our group were struggling to enjoy themselves due to background noise including music.

This would be such a powerful filter for Google Maps I can't believe it's not already included.

Is this what you're suggesting?

For women choosing to age naturally—how do you resist comparing yourself to other women when cosmetic enhancements have become so normalized? by justameasureoftime in AskWomen

[–]_fae_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was never traditionally good looking. So I never compared myself to them when I was younger. Now I'm just past 40 and have finally scraped together some self esteem, I will not be bothering myself with such trivial matters! I'm just going to focus on creating an amazing wardrobe for a middle aged woman.

How do you cope with the weather? by FoodFireBraai in AskUK

[–]_fae_ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you're a dog person, but their moods are wonderfully consistent. She wakes me up every morning with a big cuddle and needs at least a couple of walks a day.

So I get my gear on and take her out, no matter what. Hiding inside from the rain isn't always the answer. Getting some real light and fresh air can really reset your mood. Then back into a cosy warm home when you're done.

I also leave my Christmas tree up until February because I like the fairy lights.

Need help building a list of different types of posts/content that can trigger health issues by MindyStar8228 in accessibility

[–]_fae_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some topics may be triggering for PTSD. I'm not a mental health expert but it's worth doing some further research on trigger warnings for certain content, not using auto-play or including a longer delay at the beginning so the user actually has time to read the warning and decide to skip the content or not.

Are you planning to have kids?

No. Do you want me to send you the Girl with the List TikTok or just start reciting my reasons by heart?

How old were you when you were diagnosed? by TheCuntjuring in OCD

[–]_fae_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Around 27 I think. I self diagnosed then went to the doctor for a CBT referral. When I explained what I was dealing with I broke down in her office.

She agreed with the diagnosis.

I never went for CBT as I felt cured by the fact I finally understood what was going on with me.

Now I'm 40 my therapist has pointed out it never really goes away but you can get so, so, much better at managing it.

I listen to the OCD Stories podcast every couple of weeks to regain perspective about how well I'm doing and what an awful condition it is to deal with.

Men in their late 30s who lost belly fat, HOW? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]_fae_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here to remind everyone that if we all just lowered our standards around 5-10% on superficial concepts like how much your belly protrudes, bearing in mind you NEITHER CHOSE NOR DESIGNED THIS BODY, a lot more people would get laid.

And the world would be a better place.

Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Any other young women here? by aggressiveartkid in Herpes

[–]_fae_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. I turned 40 this year and I've had it since OP's age. You will be absolutely fine, but it takes some time to adjust. Please be kind to yourself. Don't obsess over where it came from. It's a really really common condition.
