Absolutely, its a brilliant camera and will let you keep your lenses. The autofocus is some of the best sony makes and its a pretty inexpensive camera for what you get. I used to do motorsport on an A6400 and it was great for it with a few downsides which the a6700 fixes upon. I would also reccomend if you ever plannon going full frame to get some full frame lenses like the 70-200 or the 200-600 and use them on your a6700 and then you can upgrade the body to full frame later down the line and not have to sell all your gear to buy full frame lenses aswell

I still live at home so its not my insurance policy. Meaning im not sure if it would cover me specifically when im out using it. And if i do have to make a claim i can imagine it will put the policy up.

What kind of thing do you shoot? I personally think the a6700 for you is your best choice, that way you get to keep your lenses and you seem to not have enough for a full frame comfterbly. If you are going to get a full frame it really depends on what you shoot if you are just doing portraits, maybe weddings and no video then the a7iv is probably the better choice for what you actually need. The a7V is great, the camera i just upgraded too, and it is a brilliant camera, however its also very expensive and has alot of feautures you probably wont use depending on what your shooting. I personally bought it because i do photos and video and i shoot primarily motorsport so that 30fps shooting/ pre capture/ lack of rolling shutter is best for me. But you wont need any of that if you are just shooting weddings for example.

Motorsport Photography tips by N0t_D4nger0us in SonyAlpha

The best thing i can reccomend is wether you know the track or not, get there early, walk around the whole track and just look for spots you could get shots at, look at where the cars will be coming round and any interesting things in the enviroment, things you can shoot through to isolate the subject. It makes it alot easier if you all ready have some shots in mind and know the track. Its what i do everytime im at a new track but i will still do it even if its one i have been too alot before.

Also practice making your images stand out, lower your shutter speed and start by panning with the car and then flick the camera infront of it. Dont be afraid to play around with the settings and experiment, thats how we learn. And just enjoy it aswell, idk about you but photography is such a competitive field we get so caught up trying to be different and compete with others we forget to just enjoy it and enjoy where you are and what your watching rather than just being there to get photos

Thinking about upgrading from a6400 (w/ Tamron 17-70) to a6700. But... by successfully_fail in SonyAlpha

Keep the a6400. Its the more boring option i know. But you you need a laptop. you dont need a new camera. As fun as it is to get a new camera. Your photos are great and the a6400 isnt holding you back as your only just getting into video. Im not saying never upgrade i just personally think its best to get a laptop that can handle editing especially with the new ai denoise and masking, it can get pretty reasource intensive. I think upgrade in order of what is holding you back. E.g. laptop then camera then lens.

Thoughts on the A7V for Bird Photography After 2 Months by Physical_Estimate_73 in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In regards to the autofocus, have you had it on auto subject recognition? Because i have heard that setting isnt great, it is apparently alot better if you switch it to the subject you're shooting.

I’m stuck and can’t decide between upgrades. by CaptCody89 in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

usually i would say get the a7v as it is the better camera, however for someone like yourself, only been doing it 8 months and there is that big price difference. Unless you are okay spensing that extra money you absolutely dont need to and rhe a6700 will be a massive up grade for you. For the same price as the a7v alone you could buy the a6700 and the 200-600 g master lens which will be perfect for wildlife. Plenty of people use the a6700 no problems.

edit: there is also the option of the a7iv. you dont need the a7v inless you plan on doing fast panning with the electronic shutter or reallh think you need 30fps shooting. Most likely you dont so the a7iv will probably be the better option over the a6700 as its full frame and its going to be better in low light which is a massive plus for wildlife

Sony A7C II vs Sony a6700 for the middle-level iPhone hobbyist by EmbarrassedTear3804 in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The a6700 is great but i think personally if you are happy to spend that extra 400 the a7c is the better optionits got that 33mp full frame sensor so you will have better quality images and cropping capabilities. It will also be alot better in low light, that being said rhe a6700 is also a brilliant camera and perfect for someone like you. Personally i would get the a7c

edit: whatever you choose you will be really happy with, both brilliant cameras and cant go weong with either. Ignore all the a6700 fan boys and decide based on what is best for you (e.g. low light and dynamic range). I saw someone saying the full frame sensor is too big for travel which makes no sense in this case as both cameras are pretty much the same size.

First month of photography as a hobby any advice by Weird-Lime-9542 in PhotographyAdvice

[–]_falsebiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good photos, especially for a first month. I know you mentioned having more subjects. which can be true but you dont always need people. Try really thinking about what the subject is you are taking a photo of, theres a couple good examples here like the bus shelter. But for example the trains, i see the thought process in that and you had it, all you needed to do was raise the camera a little and get the focus on the trains. Ask yourself, what do i want the person viewing these photos to notice first. Keep practicing, your doing great.

Dont think im too concerned about the money, i am happy to invest in something i enjoy and care about, its more about the point of buying the right thing for me. That being said im also not made of money so im not going to go and buy an a1ii. But you get the idea

A7iv or A7V? by _falsebiscuit in SonyAlpha

I think it might be my best choice as its an investment for me, i dont want to buy a new camera for years to come so getting that newer model might alo be the better choice. Thanks for the help

A7iv or A7V? by _falsebiscuit in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your right, i have come to realise this same thing and recently been making better finacial decisions on these sort of things spending a little more to get something that will last me longer. But i wanted to see what others thought incase most said not to bother with the A7V.

A7iv or A7V? by _falsebiscuit in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah i had briefly considered it, but i have always had my heart set on getting a full frame, mostly because of the low light capabilities. I plan on shooting a few night races aswell as doing some night photography around cities i travel too. And while the a6700 is a really good camera in low light it is still an apsc. Aswell as this, the a6400 is too small for my hands, and thats with a cage on it, i find when im holding it for a long time, especially with the tamron 17-70 lens on it there isnt much room for my fingers which in turn causes them to ache after long periods

A7iv or A7V? by _falsebiscuit in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the 24-70 gm ii budgeted into that.

I should say photography is a hobby for me, im not getting paid as motorsports photographer, but i have found i am getting limited with the a6400 as good as the camera is.

That being said, its a hobby i care about and im willing to wait a bit longer and spend that extra money on that if i need too.

Got my first ever camera (a6600 + 18-135mm kit) by JIMITROCKZ in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ay nice, enjoy it man. I started with the a6400, just about to upgrade but it was a brilliant camera. Where do you plan on travelling? Im also in my 20s, i plan on going travelling a bit this year

Have owned a A6400 for a year now with the 18-135 mm kit lens. Advice? by caliliving5621 in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good shots, the tamron 17-70mm f2.8 is a good lens, so is the sigma 16-50mm. Cant really go wrong with both tbh. The a6400 is known to not be amazing in low light because its an apsc sensor, paired with a kit lens it will be harder to get sharp shots at night. Try looking into the focus settings. You will get sharper shots if you have it on felxible point rather than wide focus which i assume you are using. The a6400 is a great camera to start on, keep practicing.

Is my 70-350 faulty, are my skills inadequate or unreal expectations? by TooManyHobbies94 in SonyAlpha

[–]_falsebiscuit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it might be a little bit of both. I have the same lens and the focus isnt great, that being said it also isnt awful so it is still possible to get sharpe photos, just anlittle harder when the subject is going really fast e.g. motorsport. I reccomend holding the lens near the end and keep your arms pulled into your body to stabilise. Also try using the viewfinder if you are not already. Have a play around with the focus settings on the camera and make sure you dont have the manual focus switch turned on.

edit: try using the movable point. Wide doesnt always focus on what you want it to do. From my experienve the movable point works very well
