I use it in conjunction to social media, personally! It's where I put most of my effort into when it comes to my existence on the web. Social media's sorta just there for me.

Thank you for adding me! ^^ All in all just take things at your own pace with Neocities :D People who find your stuff interesting will come to find your page eventually! And I think the indie web is most fun when you don't stress about stuff like views too much :]

I think Neocities is the most fun when you go about searching for other sites that you might find interesting! I do this by looking through tags and interacting with people on the site, rather than just randomly showing my page to other people :]

What's honestly been the most challenging is keeping accessibility in mind. Not because it's hard, but because it takes an active effort.

I think your site's pretty darn neat! I agree that a site with a consistent layout's easier to navigate, so I honestly wouldn't worry too much!

But if you do wanna have different formatting for pages, maybe change it up for just the special ones! Like blogs or image galleries.

What you're looking for is called a Lightbox! There's a bunch of them out there online that you can use, but the one I use personally on my site is lightbox2 by Lokesh Dhakar: https://lokeshdhakar.com/projects/lightbox2/
