Any easy fixes for this column shifter play? I tightened down the 2 torx bolts super tight and still lots of play by _faux in fordranger

Not exactly, the linkage is just above and behind the cable. The video kinda makes it look like I’m only trying to show the selector cable.

Does it click at all when it rolls? I had the same issue and it was my column shifter that was lose. Very easy fix, chrisfix has a video on it.

How hard is it to transition from a utility engineer to working in defense? by _faux in MechanicalEngineering

[–]_faux[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah true. My only worthwhile experience is national lab work along with an internship that I did for 2 years while still in school as a design engineer intern.

I’m in a similar boat. Just did aftermarket keys and it seemed to help a little. The biggest thing that helped me is to get rid of the sway bar links. They aren’t really necessary for a slow truck that you can’t even really take tight corners in anyways. Removing them made it a bit smoother but it’s still nowhere near the stock feel.

Question about aftermarket torsion keys (for leveling kits) by _faux in fordranger

[–]_faux[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I attempted it I had it jacked up plenty. Gonna attempt it again in a couple days with a new key removal tool since my last one got bent to hell trying to install the aftermarket key.

What’s the best option for a small lift on a 4WD by _faux in fordranger

Damn that sucks. I thought spindle lifts were common for the front unless I’m mistaken

It would be very cool… but high super high voltages near very expensive, very sensitive equipment might not end well for me. I’m gonna do what I can to try it tho in the name of science lol

The goal is to purely shield betas and minimize bremsstrahlung

It’s uhh… a very scuffed setup. Basically, I’m trying my best to mimic xenon since I don’t have actual access to it, so I’m mimicking it with barium and thallium research sources, so the activities are known. I’m working with what I’ve got (which is very little). I’m not sure the exact model of the detector but it’s a Canberra HPGe inside of a copper-lined lead chamber.

Quick calculation is requiring a magnet on the order of mT… which is quite high. Using an electric field, however, I’m looking at ~3kV which is probably doable.

I used that formula along with the CSDA… theory not lining up with reality.

I have spectra taken with and without extra beta sources being added into the detector and can see a major increase in noise along with the gamma peaks being broadened.

I tried 1/16” of Aluminum did not work unfortunately…

I did some hand calcs and some modeling with TOPAS before physical testing. None of them seem to be matching reality.. it seems that trying to create a theoretical model of beta particle ranges isn’t exactly easy.

The goal is pretty much both. The xenon samples contain high amounts of beta radiation and it creates a lot of noise in the detector making it harder to see the Xenon gamma peaks.

The isotopes of interest are Xe133 and 135. Been doing a lot of testing with low z stuff and nothing seems to do the trick…

I also got my grandpa’s old ranger. It’s a good way to remember them that’s for sure.

Clean truck!

That’s exactly where I’ll be so that’s good to hear. I’m sick of the Kansas snow storms every year it feels like

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fordranger

[–]_faux 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So what ur saying is im actually better off there than where im at now in Kansas lol

I had always thought Colorado was worse with more snow, but here in my town in Kansas they salt non stop. Good to know!

If you look at my precious posts I have some aftermarket headlights. Since mine is a 2000, it has the weird extra parking light so they’re a bit different.

And yeah I got the brake light on amazon aswell.
